“Everything has ita pro's and cons.”

We stayed there as a family of six so half went upstairs and half stayed downstairs.

-Downstairs:Everything was working, clean and the viess were excellent. No complains

-Upstairs: I understand that the theme for the room was old stylish but if you are going to put an old heater, kitchen and rooms you could check that they work! The light would turn on and off or viseversa every 10 minutes and the heater didn't work which was bad when the temp. Is under 40degrees outside.

I would come back because it is very quiet and it is 10 minutes away from the city which is great but I would reserve first floor rooms only.

Hello from sunny and warm Sausalito!

We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us last year. Lots of time has passed since your visit, and our property has undergone a remarkable transformation in the past 12 months.

The accommodations you mention in your review are no longer in existence as you found them. Our newly renovated Hillside Cottages are now furnished with a contemporary modern design which embraces its historic charm, accented with mahogany furniture, recycled glass shelving, and polished chrome fixtures. All cottages feature king size poster beds and spa quality bath amenities, and many have cozy wood burning fireplaces. Some have balconies with breathtaking views of the boats of Sausalito, Richardson Bay and the island of Belvedere.

We'd love for you to come back - hopefully soon - and experience the new Casa Madrona Hotel & Spa!

“Beautiful stay.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

Stayed Dec 30-31. Beautiful harbor view room with balcony. Staff was friendly and courteous. Valet parking was convenient, although charges for handicapped guests seemed unkind, since on street parking was not a good choice for us. Some hotels waive this charge (such as the Fairmont in Sonoma). Would definitely stay there again, however. My son and dil stayed in a close courtyard view room which was spacious and had a fireplace. Enjoyed the Poggio restaurant downstairs.

Room Tip: Harbor view room with balcony was great.

“Amazing Stay!”

We stayed at the Casa Madrona on Jan 13 & 14. We stayed in SF for 3 nights prior to Sausalito so this was the perfect hotel for relaxation at the end of our trip. We are in our early 30's and were celebrating our 10 year anniversary. We took the ferry from SF and literally walked across the street to the hotel. We were greeted by friendly staff who looked after our bags while we went on a pre-arranged Sonoma Valley Wine tour (recommended by the Casa Madrona).

Our room was gorgeous - we were on the 4th floor overlooking the water. The room was very spacious and clean with beautiful decor. And we had the most amazing restful sleeps! The staff was very helfpul with restuarant ideas and transportation schedules. Andrew at the front desk was particularily helpful - he arranged our wine tour! We didn't go to the spa and we didn't use the fitness centre but it did look nice.

A few places to eat in the area...
Coffee/lattes - CIBO Cafe (they also have breakfast/lunch)
Breakfast - The Lighthouse & The Bridgeway Cafe (usual breaky foods)
Lunch - Sausalito Taco Shop (delicious Burritos & Sangria)
Dinner - Spinnaker Restaurant (Seadood & great view) & Poggio (Italian & below the Casa Madrona)
Drinks/sports bar - No Name bar (we watched the SF game and had some beers here. There are live bands at night)

Things to do...
Because we already experienced most of SF we did some other local things...
1. Sonoma Valley Wine Tour: Dan Wood from Terrific Tours was a great guide. He took us to 4 wineries and we had lunch in the towne of Sonoma.
2. Sausalito Bike Rentals - We biked from Sausalito to Tiberon, took the ferry to SF and then biked over the Golden Gate bridge back to Sausalito. About 18 miles of biking - great views and a lot of fun!
3. Walk along the waterfront and marinas. Lots of shops, galleries, etc.

We will definetly come back to visit Sausalito and will definetly stay at Casa Madrona!

Room Tip: If you can get a room overlooking the water, it's gorgeous!

“Unique w/character”

CM was another great place to stay in Sausalito. Upon arrival they park your car and when you get to you room you see how this place is overflowing with character. The harbor view is nice and I enjoyed being able to look out over the small town from our window/balcony. The room is spacious and comfortable. Our room had nothing but high end amenities. The beds were comfortable and relaxing. The location allowed us numerous options to chose from when it was to go eat. It is also a short drive to both wine country and SF. I am planning on staying here again soon. The staff was excellent and helpful with all of our requests.

“OK but not awesome”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

Stayed 1 night in Dec 2011 in a King room with bay view and balcony. The view was great but I wasn't impressed with the room. It was in good condition but it was small and the layout was awkward, in that you have to walk "around" doors to get to the bathroom, the shower stall, the toilet, the closet. The layout was really really awkward, in that it made the room uncomfortable. And also for the price and that it is called a "superior King" room, I was surprised by the very small size.

Otherwise no complaints at all regarding furnishings or staff or the bed's comfort or cleanliness.
