“An idyllic spot for a get away”

Cavallo Point is a wonderful mix of old and new. The huge property is beautiful sitting in the shadow of the Golden Gate Bridge and offers an abundance of natural beauty. It's just as easy to sit in a rocker and enjoy the views as it is to take a hike and explore the Marin headlands. The breakfast on the porch is great. Farley's bar has a nice wine and drink list as well as good food. The spa is quiet and relaxing. Overall, this is a great spot for a night or two of tranquility.

Room Tip: The contemporary rooms are compact but comfortable with a fireplace, deck and incredible views. The...

“Lovely!”

On a holiday road trip from Southern CA to Medford, OR we stopped Christmas Day for a one night stay at Cavallo Point. It was just after sunset when we arrived, but even then, we could tell this was a very special place. We were greeted by two genuinely friendly people at the front desk and check in was a breeze. Although the restaurant was closed, the bar was open, and we met our son and his girlfriend there for a great casual dinner and drinks. There was a friendly crowd enjoying the evening - we met several locals who are regulars there. After dinner we returned to our suite in historic Building 4, which had two bedrooms, two baths and a cozy sitting room with a gas log fireplace. It was a warm, cozy setting where we could relax and catch up with our son and his girlfriend before we turned in for the night. The suite had been thoughtfully restored, respectfully preserving historic elements. There were exceptional black and white photographs throughout the suite - true art and not the usual "decorator pieces." The next morning we took time to walk the grounds and take pictures. We felt a sense of the past, when families lived in the officer's quarters and sailed on the bay. After we got home I called the gift shop at Cavallo Point because I wanted information on the black and white photographs. The person I spoke with took the time to research the photos in our room and called me back with the name of a gallery where the photos could be purchased. Great customer service! We all loved our experience there, and would definitely go back.

“Amazing Customer Service!!”

I recently had booked a 1 night getaway here for my girlfriend and I. About 3 weeks before our reservation I decide that I wanted to propose to my girlfriend at Cavallo Point during our upcoming stay. I called the Concierge to get some ideas of good places to do the proposal and any other tips. They were extremely helpful and sooo nice. We made a whole game plan and had 2 options setup in case of bad weather. They upgraded my room to the nicest Suite in the whole resort and provided us with a free champagne toast with our friends and family after I popped the question. They even reserved the best table in the restaurant for us that night. They really went the extra mile and it was the best experience I have had at a Resort ever. The customer service from everyone else at the resort including the bell man, servers at Murray Circle and at the Spa was amazing. Everyone wished us Congratulations and was attentive and friendly. I cannot recommend Cavallo Point enough! Their Concierge's really put in the extra effort to make this resort Top Notch! Can't wait to come back and stay soon for another weekend getaway.

“Unique”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

this is a very unique place to stay, so close to SF but feels a world away. there are old (historic) and newer rooms. I stayed in an older room. the first thing that struck me is that the ONLY heating mechanism is a gas fireplace (despite there being a huge radiator in the room). When I walked in the room it was freezing cold and the bellman showed how to turn on the heat.

The room was interesting in that it was upstairs, and the stairs were IN the room-- i had expected a door at the top of the stairs but there was one. So, it was a bit disconcerting to not be able to see the door from within the room. The maid came in downstairs and yelled up--- was just a bit strange.

Uniquely laid out room due to it being a historic building. So, not really my style, but quirky and interesting.

Overall, a good place to stay as long as you consciously are seeking out that experience.

“Potential but misses the mark”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

My husband had it right when he said "this place has great potential...the location is terrific, the rooms are good but the service is horrible...if they can fix that, they would be a top notch destination". This pretty much sums up our experience at Cavallo Point. From the moment we drove up it was bad service, after bad service. The bellman, waved us to follow him in his van to our room. When we arrived he pointed up at the building and said "yours in the one up there, you are so close you can just grab your stuff and take it on up". When I said that we had quite a few bags, he looked bothered by having to manage it but moved the bags into his van and drove up to the room, leaving us to walk up the hill behind him. He even suggested that I walk straight up through the bushes to be faster even though I was in high heels. I opted to follow the road. He then commented on how heavy my bags were and how he was glad he had gone the gym that day. I found his behavior rude and unprofessional.

We had dinner reservations at Murray Circle and when we arrived our table was not ready, in fact we had to wait over 20 min from our reservation time to be seated. We were told to wait in the bar but there were numerous reserved signs on empty tables and there was no place for us to sit so we ended up standing out on the front porch in 40 degree weather waiting for our table. The server was distracted and unattentive the whole night I had to ask a couple of time for my water to be refilled. The food was good but again, service was more than subpar.

At the end of our meal we asked for cart ride to our room. The receptionist said he called and they were on their way. No one ever showed up so 20 min. later we walked to the hotel lobby next door to get a ride. Half way to our room the cart battery died and we were left to walk the rest of the way.

This hotel is in a great location, with wonderful views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the city. There is traffic noise from the freeway nearby so not the most peaceful of night sleeps. The rooms are nicely appointed but from start to finish, the service was deplorable. When I checked out the clerk asked how our stay was and I inquired did she really want to know my answer. She said she did and I shared my experience. To her credit, she did credit our room partially for our trouble and I would say this was a very admirable gesture.
