“As Much B&B As Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

My Wine Country travel group enjoys staying at quaint hotels and B&Bs. We don't expect luxury or posh surroundings. We like the feel of yesteryear. This turn-of-the-century charming old hotel fit the bill. I share a room with a fellow traveler and we have spanned the gambit; everything from together in a king to more room than we need. Hotel La Rose gave us a huge room with two queen beds and a turn-of-the-century closet size bathroom. It had exposed plumbing and a leaky shower. But, I am not complaining our stay was absolutely wonderful. Just wanted to let you know that it is, what it is. Great service and a very impressive FREE continental breakfast (lots of pastry and fruit to select from) tops the visit. If you enjoy this sort of thing, stay there. My wife would not have set her bags down before we were back in the cab looking for another place to stay.

With only 48 guest rooms Historic Hotel La Rose not only handles your rooming needs but works hard to give our guest (extended family) a home away from home. Being a small historic property we offer a one on one guest experience from check in to check out.

“Excellent Location”

We stayed here two nights and specifically requested the newer carriage house. We liked our large quiet room and the high speed Internet access was a real plus. We also enjoyed the location of the hotel in the historic Railroad Square and its proximity to downtown Santa Rosa. Some dislikes: shower water pressure was weak, pillows were not comfortable. It is important to note that the brochure for the Hotel La Rose lists a complimentary European breakfast as one of its amenities; however, the hotel no longer offers this to guests. We pointed this out to the staff, who did not apologize for the error nor remove the brochures from the display.

Room Tip: Rooms in the carriage house are more modern

We take every guest comment to heart and we wish to thank you for your comments. The rack cards (information cards) have been replaced as we have a new resturant on site Iron Stone which serves a great breakfast, lunch and dinner for our guest at a 10% discount. The hotel choose to cancel our breakfast do to Iron Stone opening as our guest had a better selection. We are looking into breakfast options at this time for our guest that wants to eat and dash.

“Gem of Sonoma”

First came here on business in August 2011' came back in December, 2011 and never thought to stay anywhere else. 100 year old restored jewel in the historic railroad depot district of Sonoma county's largest city. There are two buildings, the main and the carriage house. Never stay in the main building because the carriage house is so wonderful. Huge room, immaculately decorated in modern Victorian , door opens to balcony or deck overlooking internal courtyard garden reminiscent of New Orleans. Comfy bed, keurig coffee maker, nice sized bathroom, fluffy towels, spotless. Front desk works to please and the new restaurant, Iron Stone has gotten rave reviews. Heading there tomorrow night for dinner. Great find if you're in Sonoma county wine country.

Room Tip: Second floor carriage house room 68 is my favorite, afternoon sun.

“Great service, nice location, a little dated”

My husband and I stayed here for one night while attending our friend's wedding nearby. The hotel was lovely, with lots of character. We arrived at 4pm, checked in (which was very smooth and pleasant), went to the wedding, came home late, and left at 5am. So to be fair, we did not really interact much with the staff. However, check in and check out (at 5am) were both perfectly nice experiences.

Location was very nice - close to lots of cute shopping and nightlife, overall nice neighborhood.

Hotel itself was quite nice. The lobby was very quaint and pretty. Our room was also nice and well appointed. This is an old world hotel. I certainly appreciated the character of the decor and architecture of the hotel. That being said, the rooms looked a little bit tired with faded colors, as if they'd just lost a little luster. The bathrooms however were nicely updated - all appliances were clearly in an older fashion, but fully functioning.

Lastly, beds were incredibly comfortable. Overall would recommend for a quaint week-end trip, but anything longer you may want something a little larger and more updated.

As General Manager of a historic property it is a daily task to keep up with antique furniture and buildings. The entire staff works hard daily to accomplish this task. Our wonderful guest (extended family) keeps us moving forward and motivated to stay ahead of any problems or concerns that arise.

“Old World Charm and Warmth”

I've stayed at the Hotel La Rose many times over the past 10 years. I love the staff - especially Janet and Valentin, and the homey comfort of the main building. It's reminiscent of a European hotel, which I enjoy. I dislike over-decorated bed and breakfast places and have had my fill of sterile, hyper-modern establishments. I love the quiet and I love the Railroad Square area. the breakfast is continental, but fresh and good, and there are many restaurants within walking distance. I haven't tried to new restaurant, iron Stone, but am looking forward to it. My favorite places nearby are Aroma for coffee and a bagel, and Petite Syrah for dinner or lunch. There's an Italian place around the corner that has fantastic food too. We always come away relaxed and restored. I highly recommend Hotel La Rose.
