If I hadn't been looking forward to enjoying the breakfast so much, I would have not been so disappointed. When making my reservations, I specifically asked the owner, Jackie, if I could have breakfast saved for me after my balloon ride to which she agreed. When my daughter, son, and I arrived on Friday evening to celebrate my birthday I paid the bill for two nights in addition to an extra $25 for each day for a third breakfast. On Saturday morning the balloon ride was cancelled and I came home at 10 am and was served a very nice breakfast. The next day, the balloon ride about was successful and I returned at 12;30 pm very hungry. Tim gave me coffee and a shortbread cookie. I asked if I could have breakfast and Tim refused
saying it was too late. I reminded him of our agreement and he rudely dismissed my request. As I was leaving, I asked Tim for $25 back so that I could buy breakfast for myself and he refused for no reason. I had the impression that it was because he couldn't be bothered with heating up the breakfast since his wife was at church. I left feeling quite upset and realized my grown up children and I felt like unwelcome visitors the entire time even though we were the only guests. I now understand why ballooning companies do not recommend this B&B. Two other incidents occurred to add to our feeling of discomfort and unease. We were leaving on Friday with the intention of arriving by 6 pm. Due to traffic, we were running a little late and I called ahead to have our tea saved for us to which Jackie agreed. We got there just before 7pm and the B&B was empty. Jackie repeatedly said how difficult it was for her to serve a scone and some hot tea because of B&B food regulations. Even though we did get tea and a scone, my son, daughter felt as if we had made some
highly unreasonable request. Lastly, they have a nice hot tub and we used it Friday night after the long drive until 11 pm. On Saturday night, we were looking forward to using the hot tub again but the basement leading to the hot tub was locked at 10 pm; I was not comfortable hunting out Tim or Jackie that late at night. Why do people go into this business? These owners lack the skills to allow a family feel comfortable and the business wisdom to either fulfill the promise of serving a breakfast after ballooning or refund the $25 to allow me to buy my own.

As owners and innkeepers at the inn, it is always disappointing to us when a guest does not have an enjoyable time here at Melitta Station Inn.
Your original request was for our only Family Suite on a date over Thanksgiving. At that time the suite was not available on account of an existing reservation by a return guest. The agreement we made was that you could have the suite on week-end nights at a special inclusive rate for three persons.
In response to your call at 6pm on the day of check-in, we agreed to serve you afternoon tea on your arrival that evening. This we did with good grace, providing a selection of teas, antique china, scones and shortbread as I do for all our guests. We offered extra tea/scones/shortbread and you assured us you had sufficient so that you had no need to go out for anything further to eat. Before leaving you to settle in we checked that you were warm enough both in the lounge and bedroom.
As a safety issue we have no locks on any doors leading to the hot-tub area. I opened these for you as we went round so I could show you how things work. I explained the working of the facility, and said that although we usually asked guests to cease use by 10:00 on that day there was no-one else to be disturbed.
The next day (Sat) your intention was to go on the balloon flight. We adjusted breakfast time accordingly, even though the flight included a breakfast. The weather apparently prevented the balloon flight, so that our arrangement for a 10am breakfast (long after our regular 8:30am time) was perfect. On reading your comments, we checked with your balloon flight company who recommended a hotel for easy access to their launch site, since you had only one car between the three adults.
A 2nd flight attempt was to be made the next day; so instead a visit to a spa was organized. This meant that your teenage adults were left in Santa Rosa for the afternoon. That evening these 2 teenagers had to walk back to the Inn in the dark. We gave them , and they enjoyed, cake/cookies and hot chocolate.
As we discussed Sunday arrangements on that Saturday evening, I explained that check-out on Sunday was by 11 am. Breakfast was cooked and served at the agreed 10 am to the teenagers. We allowed your son and daughter to be here nearly 2 hrs after check out time awaiting your return. When you returned to the Inn at 12:45pm we offered coffee and cookies to allow you to refresh and pack for check-out.
The request you made for a warmed up breakfast 3 hours after cooking time is against our own policy of everything being home & freshly cooked to perfection at the scheduled or pre-arranged time. The request for a refund of the breakfast price is not relevant since we are a B&B not a restaurant and breakfast is an implicit part of our service whether taken or not.
We regret that you felt you had such a bad experience and assure all our valued past, present and future guests of our love of, dedication to, and intention to maintain the high standards that have made Melitta Station Inn well recognized as a Santa Rosa & Sonoma Valley accommodation of high caliber.
