“Great location, does the job!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Location is the best thing about this hotel, it couldnt be better, third street promenade is just round the corner about 20 seconds walk!,rooms were clean and tidy, yeah it's abit outdated but your in l.a!how much time do you really be in the hotel?!our room was right by a air-con unit which was buzzing 24/7 my husband couldn't sleep a wink, we were just here for 2 nights, a refurb would have this hotel one of the best in town.

Room Tip: Not on the third floor by the air con!

“Not worth the price”

2 nights, 2 queen beds, 2 adults, valet parking, 24 hours of internet. &440. Paid the same at full-service Marriott and it was 10 times better. This hotel smelled and if you are a light sleeper, forget it! It sounded like the window was open. You could also hear every word from the room next door and those walking above you. Forget it if you want to plug anything in. You have to crawl on the floor and unplug the lamp and clock. One good point was the awesome towels!!

ANGELA ROGERS, General Manager at Hotel Carmel, responded to this review
6 February 2012
Dear Valued Guest:

On behalf of the Hotel Carmel, I would like to thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to leave your review of your stay with the Hotel Carmel.

I would like to apologize for any inconveniences you may have experienced while staying with us here at the Hotel Carmel.

I am not sure why you experienced external noise in your room as all windows of the Hotel Carmel are double paned insulated rooms, which keeps external noise to a very low minimum.

There are electrical outlets in all guestrooms, one under the desk, one in the bathroom and one located behind the night stand in the room. If you were having problems locating an outlet a quick call to the front desk would have resolved your problem instantly, a staff member would have been more than happy to assist you.

If you are ever in the area again, please contact me and I will personally make sure that your accommodations are to your specifications and needs.

Kindest Regards,

Angela Rogers

“Nice hotel located very central and close close to the beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

people found this review helpful

This hotel is very very central -> the next road is 3rd street with all shops, restaurants, bar.
5 minutes walking to the beach and super close to the Santa Monica Pier.
The staff is generally very nice. The parking costs for one night 14$.
The room are not big, but you are very central! It can be loudy on the week-end, in the night, since there could be people having party in the road...
Next door you find the Jinky's -> super place for breakfast and in the same street (2nd) there are offices for booking sightseeing; yoga-center; ....
One bad thing about the hotel: they don't offer free internet, even not in the lobby!
If you want to have a super breakfast with an amazing buffet, super view on the ocean, go on saturday or sunday to the hotel Loews, still in Santa Monica (1700 Ocean View) -> 30$. The money is really worth.

“Top Location”

Hotel Carmel is a charming hotel, right in downtown. Room was spotless. The one negative was the lift was out of order whilst there so had to drag suitcases up 3 flights of steep steps.
I would recommend anyone to stay here.

“Nice Location, Good Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2011

Saw an advert for this Hotel in an LA magazine so we weren't sure what to expect when we got there. Our room, overlooking the street, was large and comfortable. It was also spotlessly clean as was our bathroom, which had a good selection of toiletries. From early morning, in the lobby, an excellent Continental Breakfast was available with Croissants, Muffins and Danish Pastries, Orange Juice, Coffee and various Teas. My only complaint was that with black Tea, us English visitors would prefer milk. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful and would certainly encourage us to stay again in this very reasonably priced hotel.
