Just spent the weekend there and I can't rave enough about this property. Every single aspect of the hotel and experience is top notch. The front desk staff were really friendly and even though we arrived early at noon and check in wasn't till 4 within 45 minutes she had our room ready! The outdoor pool area is just stunning you can lay on lounge cots with an endless supply of fresh towels or sit at a table ocean front and look across at the Ferris wheel on the pier and watch the bikers and people exercising and other activity on the beach its so entertaining! the tables have these gas fire bowls in the center and wow in the early evening you get a whole different experience sitting out there as well! It's a constant light show because the Ferris wheel changes colors and its awesome to watch! they bring you blankets if you want them as well. They have a happy hour from 4 to 8 I believe? and every highball is $6.60 as are a selection of appetizers! Seriously where can you pay for drinks and high quality 5 star food at that price? and sit outside in your own private oasis with comfy rattan chairs and your own private fire pit??~ The Hot tub is open 24 hours again very rare to see that! The pool menu was again top notch I had a crab salad with avocado baby greens, fish tacos.. the sushi menu is the best I have had in my life! every drink, every appetizer, the entres' the food was delicious as was the breakfast buffet in the restaurant as well. So reasonably priced was the food we were thrilled to enjoy cuisine at that level and pay so reasonably for it. The Only expensive item was the $19.00 prawn sushi roll but we paid it and ordered two more the next night because it was THAT good! Again the very best I have ever experienced. From the maids, to the front desk, the concierge, the bell boys, the waiters, the gift store manager, servers everybody is friendly and the service is unbeatable. I had computer issues they sent a tech up who arrived in 2 minutes. I asked about how to work the coffee maker ( my problem) again he appeared at the door withing minutes. The service is so fast and effective nobody ever says NO! Every time I asked for something it was ABSOLUTELY! coming right up.. or SURE you can! they totally cater to your every need and they NEVER drop that attitude. The room we had was on the 6th floor and partial ocean view. you could see the whole pool area as well as the ocean and beach fantastic! beautiful linens, decor, clean gorgeous luxurious bathrooms, TOP of the line again! I can't say enough good things about Loews forget Shutters and the Marriott and Casa something? we went walked along the beach and saw those OMG they don't even compare! not even close! Also the location so close to the third street promenade shopping, the pier, catch a bus right outside and go to Malibu or even downtown easily. You can walk along the beach for Miles and miles.. rent bikes.. everything a vacationer would want is there! Can't wait to return in a month or two.. one of the best weekend vacations at the best property I have ever had in my life thus far!

The rooms here don't measure up to the online photos. The carpet, sheer drapes, and upholstery looks more worn than modern, and the walls are paper thin. I spent my first morning listening to every word of my neighbor's phone conversation and his constant coughing and nose blowing. If you do reserve here, be sure to call and ensure that your room type is confirmed. I reserved a superior king, but when I arrived that room type wasn't available. My first room with two double beds was above noisy air conditioners and the second on the 1st floor where I heard buses whirring by every 15 minutes.

On the plus side, the hotel offers a great location with beach access and excellent al fresco breakfasts at its restaurant.

My husband and I have travelled the world and stayed at some of the best hotels. We went to the Loews SM for our 10th wedding anniversary. The front desk staff were entirely unfriendly, uninterested and business-like. The first room they put us in was a dark basement level room, with the adjacent apartment/condo's junk-filled private garages open and facing into our room! They moved us to another room overlooking the main road & a major construction site--and was smelly. Within 15 minutes we realised there was unbearable & relentless construction noise (jack hammers, etc). Without apology they moved us to a third room which was at road level. We had to keep the curtains closed the entire time lest we be viewed by people walking on the sidewalk. The only good thing were the friendly bell men and valet staff. The woman we had at the front desk ought to go to hospitality school as she seemed like something out of a scary movie. Other than that, the hotel is in need of renovations. They did have note that this stay was for our wedding anniversary, so I can't imagine what kind of room we would have had for a standard visit! We will not be staying there again nor recommending it to people visiting the Santa Monica area.

I have stayed in many nice and fancy hotels, and this one ranks right up there with them all. The room was great and the facilities for swimming, dining and exercise are exactly as one would want. We were initially scheduled for a room with two double beds, but after asking for one king sized bed, the front desk person studied the computer for a while until he could find one that would even have an ocean view. It really made my stay perfect!
