I stayed at the Hilton Scotts Valley for a three day business trip in the area. I liked the French chateau type exterior of the place and the lobby was large and inviting as well The front desk staff was extremely friendly and helpful when I needed recommendations and directions for dining options around town. By the way, be sure to eat at Shadowbrook restaurant in Capitola, which is about a 10 or 15 minute drive from the hotel.
The room itself was spacious and spotlessly clean with a mini-fridge, coffeemaker, small sofa, upholstered chair, coffee table, flat-screen TV work desk and chair, and a comfortable king size bed. The bathroom was of a better than average size as well.
There is a restaurant and bar area, which I tried only once. I had the eggplant parmesan, and I thought it was only average, though the portions were certainly generous. The person I was traveling with had the herb-roasted chicken, which she didn't seem to care for much. Overall, the food gets low marks, but at least the servers, like the front desk staff, were friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, good dining options are quite limited in Scott's Valley. You would be better advised to drive into Santa Cruz or Capitola for a decent meal.
The hotel is conveniently located off highway 17 and is within reasonably close driving distance to Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park and Big Basin State Park, both of which I highly recommend visiting if you are a nature lover, Downtown Santa Cruz and the Boardwalk are also just a few miles away.
On the whole, I think this is a fine place to stay for clean, comfortable accomodations and a hospitable, helpful staff in Santa Cruz. I would certainly stay there again, though I would probably eat elsewhere :)
