I spent one night here, after flying into San Jose on business. Located just a short drive from the airport, this suited my needs. The room was nicely appointed, with kitchenette, large TV, and comfortable furniture. Overall, it was a good stay. My only complaint is that the room HVAC unit was very loud, making random noises all night, which tended to keep me from sleeping soundly. Also, the hotel is located about 150 feet from a busy light rail terminal that starts up around 5:30am. If you stay here, I would recommend you get an even-numbered room, so you are on the opposite side of the building from the train station. To those who complain about lack of services, this chain is geared for providing an inexpensive, extended stay to business travelers. If you want to be catered to, you should look elsewhere. Note that if you only plan to stay one night, the lack of maid service, etc. isn't really noticeable. And, you get a bit more room with the kitchenette.

Room was great. Spotless and well appointed with a nice kitchenette. I flew in on Sunday, from Asia, and was in the office first thing Monday morning feeling good. Caltrain convenient, walk across the parking lot, and easy access to the SJ airport. Front desk staff are very helpful and friendly.

Candlewood Suites is almost perfect for what it is: an extended stay hotel. If you're looking for daily housekeeping, room service and a luxurious environment, this is not your hotel. If, however, you're looking for friendly service and the simple amenities of home (in-room, fully equipped kitchenettes, smoke-free environment, free on-site laundry and an exercise facility), you'll be very happy here. My husband and I stayed for two weeks after relocating to the Bay Area. Because our schedule was changeable--he was working while I searched for our new home--we were happy to avoid daily room service and the feeling that we must leave our room between 11-4 each day. There is only one caveat: If you're a light sleeper, you may have trouble with noise. The hotel is literally next door to the Santa Clara CalTrain station, and our room overlooked the tracks. Freight and passenger trains pass by at all times of day, and though they're quieter at night, you may still hear them. We didn't mind, having lived in cities where you can hear trains for miles, but if you're sensitive, it may drive you crazy. All in all, we had a very pleasant stay and would return, should the need ever arise.

This hotel is right next to the Santa Clara CalTrain station. I stayed at this hotel so I could use the CalTrain and go to San Francisco and back so I didn't need to get a rental car. I flew into the San Jose airport and there is a free public transit bus that takes you from the airport to the CalTrain station and visa versa. Next to the hotel is a Quiznos sub shop, a Bank of America, Starbucks and a few other eateries. Three blocks away is a 7-Eleven. The room was comfortable and clean. It has a kitchenette with a fullsize refrigerator, stove, etc so it's good for long term stays. If you stay for less than a week, there's no maid service. I didn't see any vending machines but they do have one of those Candlewoods "cubboards' where you can buy things from. I went to the 7 Eleven instead. They have a laundry room and exercise room. My room was on the side away from the train tracks so I don't know if the train was noisy or not for those on that side of the hotel. I thought the price was a little pricey but I didn't need to rent a car so I came out ahead.
