“Bright room decor, and spacious room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

My husband and two small children and I have stayed here twice in January for one-stays on the way up the coast. Both times we were given an "upgrade" to a larger room with a small kitchen. The room is large enough for two double beds and a fold-out bed. The room is brightly lit and decorated with red and white colors. The side window has a view of the wall next door, but has a large friendly blue walrus painted on it. The continental breakfast is located right outside the door and consists of fruit, pastries and coffee, but no juice. Jeannine's bakery is close by on State Street. It was a pleasant stay with plenty of room, and we are likely to stay here again.

“Just right.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

Our single overnight in the Agave Inn was uneventful. The Inn (a motel really) was very clean and our queen bed room was small but usable. Two heavy loaded touring bicycles just fit with little room to spare. The bed was comfy and the bathroom cute. We made use of the replacement vinyl windows with screens to provide ventilation as the bathroom lacked an exhaust fan. Breakfast was pleasant, making use as it did of locally produced pastries and fruit. The tang was an unexpected and unpleasant addition (real OJ would have better fit the bill). All in all a calm and serene stay. We recommend! :)

“Affordable, clean and stylish...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

The Agave Inn was just as described by the previous positive Tripadvisor posts. Affordable, clean (yes, smelled of bleach when we walked in the door, which my wife likes) and with its own funky southwestern style, including colorful walls and other stylish accoutrements. Yes, the room is a bit on the small side, but nicely apportioned. The flat-screened TV, coupled with free wifi and my iPad and cable, allowed us to view our preferred Netflix offerings to our hearts' delight. My only complaint is that the refrigerator in room 8 is quite noisy during the nighttime hours. I'm not just referring to the normal refrigerator sounds, but this one emits all sorts of deep growls and rumbles, which makes it hard to sleep. The breakfast is somewhat minimal as well, necessitating a Starbucks run about a mile down State St., but for a motel, it is nice to have fruit, coffee and other amenities available. Wendy, who checked me in, however, was stellar; friendly, informative, and helpful. I highly recommend this place for affordable, clean lodging in this pricey environment.

“COZY, FUNKY RETREAT”

We stayed at the Agave Nov. 23rd, 2011 for three days at the recommendation of local family. It was the one of the best values for the money in Santa Barbara. The small motel locally centrally on State Street, was very clean with adequate room facilities. Our room had two queen beds and a sleeper sofa, corner unit on the first floor away from the street, kitchenette, flat screen TV, phone, alarm clock, plenty of pillows and blankets. Complimentary coffee, tea and pastries were served each morning. The on-site manager, Susan, was absolutely fantastic to be sure our stay was comfortable, attending to our needs and questions. Her friendly and professional demeanor made our stay very pleasant. Our three day stay cost a total of $435.00. This was a bargain by S.B. standards. We would not hesitate to stay at the Agave on our next trip to the area.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the busy State Street out in front of the motel. Upstairs is probably even...

“Agave Inn a tidy, quaint, nice, no-frills, place”

The Agave Inn has small rooms and is a small hotel. Parking is scarce. The carpeted floors are really dirty and need cleaned. But there is a fridge and microwave in each room, a flat screen TV, and the rooms are clean (other than the carpets). It's a safe, well located, mom-and-pop establishment. I would go again. In fact, I have.
