We stopped off here for a night as part of a road trip going down the coast. It is in a line of hotels of similar quality. Given how far it was from the beach front and downtown I thought it was a bit pricey but it was on a par with any of the other hotels we priced and quite a bit cheaper than the holiday inn beside it.

Location wise you are about a 20 minute walk from downtown. The rooms were as expected. I was happy enough with the cleanliness and space in it. I did find it a bit loud however. I woke up a couple of times with people outside making noise out the way home from a night out as the room was quite close to a main road. Breakfast was a bit better than expected. Overall nothing to complain about but still thought it was a bit pricey for what it was.

This motel in Santa Barbara was remodeled recently, and apparently went for a modern look, with a somewhat garish teal and brown color theme going for it everywhere. But don't look too hard because its still a motel at heart and the quality of all the furnishings is Comfort Inn level at best. Still, most accommodations in Santa Barbara are outrageously pricey and that ends up making Avania Inn an excellent deal. Its several streets south and all the way at one end of the main commercial block, State Street. Its just a few blocks from the beach area, but you'll need to walk about 10 minutes to get to the beach, about 20 minutes to get to Stearn's Wharf, and at least 30 minutes leisurely to where the shops start on State Street. Recommend driving to most attractions, which is quick. Immediate neighborhood seems safe enough, as I mostly walked, primarily residential aside from other small motels/hotels.

Large parking lot and swimming pool, mini fridges in the room. Continental breakfast in the morning in the large lobby, although I didn't try, and supposedly free wi-fi that didn't work for me but I didn't need it. Some internet terminals available for use in the lobby. The room was large, clean, and comfortable enough for what it was. Staff I interacted with for my one night there were fine.

I booked the Avania because of the price and the location. Our room had everything we needed, fridge and microwave, and was comfortable. We didn't use the pool but it looked inviting. We walked to the marina, wharf and State St. easily. We had a late night flight out of LAX and asked if we could leave our car in the parking lot while we shopped and wandered the beach for the day and that was no problem. A tip from a friend that lives in SB told us to try The Brewhouse for locally brewed beer. It is a 5-7 min walk from the Avania and had great pub grub as well. I would stay there again.

We stayed in a "refurbished" room, and it looked like we should have smelled fresh paint. Samantha at the front desk mentioned that the hotel was refurbished about one-year ago; Wow! You can tell the owners put a lot of care into the maintenance! Avania Inn is located within walking distance to "everything". State street is 4-5 blocks away, as is the Wharf. The harbor is a just 5-minute walk. One of the best hotels we stayed at in the last four-years!
