Santa Barbara is a premiere place to stay with prices to match. Goleta is north of Santa Barbara down the 101 just a bit. And, in my opinion, a haven from the notable State Street of Santa Barbara. State Street is a great place to hang out.. If you can afford to stay near State Street at a decent hotel then fine.
But, after getting noise and parties from college kids at night, then you'll want to find a place where you can sleep.
This Hotel is exactly that.
The best rooms are in the BACK of the hotel on the 2nd floor away from Calle Real.
This hotel is like a little vacation.
There is a nice pool with huge palm trees.
There is a bar by the pool and they serve typical hotel food - but it is very good. And, they have specials.
The rooms are clean and there was rarely any noise.
I stayed for 4 months on the weekdays.
On the weekends it is cheaper to drive into Thousand Oaks area and get a hotel there.
This is a typical Holiday Inn from the 70's with the aluminum door frames and the narrow rooms
But, the rooms have been updated. The bed spreads are nice. There are nice pictures on the walls of beach scenes. This is a 3 1/2 star hotel for sure. Which is fine.
. I would not say the room is perfect - the TV's may still be the old glass tube type.
The cable was not digital - but analogue and the picture could be grainy.
There is free wifi - which is a huge bonus. It works great at times and then hardly at other times.
If something is broken - like the bathtub stopper - they will fix it.
There are rooms with bathtubs - and the hot water is endless and the tubs are deep and great for relaxing in.
Beds were comfortable - not too hard or soft.
The air conditioning works very well and is a wall unit.
If the hotel food is not your thing - you can walk down Calle Real to a sushi place which is really good.
And there is a Coffee Bean right down the road too.
And, probably one of the best deals for gasoline in Santa Barbara is right across from your hotel there.
You can maybe priceline this place for $69 to $89 on the weekdays.
Santa Barbara is a "vacation land" on the weekends. So the hotels all raise prices to the moon on the weekends for the LA tourists.
Weekend - forget it. Too expensive. Just get in the car and go to Calabasas or Westlake Village or Woodland hills. As the hotels there go cheap on the weekend.
So, if you are working in Santa Barbara, leave it for the weekend and get your "LA" fix.
All in all - this is one of the most affordable hotels via price line for a long term stay in Santa Barbara - a very expensive market.
The staff at the front desk was very nice.
One guy - checked me in - in less than a minute.
I would "dare" him to check me in again - in less than a minute - and he would!
So, even though I came in via priceline - I was treated OK.
For fun I used to go to Lucky's in Montecito.
That is a fun place to just people watch and relax for a few hours.
Now that you know the drill - you are totally good to go.
As I submitted this review on 1/9/2012 and I stayed there almost a year ago - well, things are probably even better now as they would have remodeled a few more rooms. And maybe updated the television sets.
Room Tip: Back of the hotel Room 217 or near by.
