The accomodations were awful: an overcrowded room with no space to walk in between the many bunk-beds; the towels and sheets and were tattered and unclean; the bathrooms were overtaxed and not well maintained. There are no doors to the toilet stalls -- just doors (could not figure that one out.) We stayed at five California hostels over five days, and this was the most expensive one, so I was doubly frustrated. The service made it even worse: the desk is manned by a few clueless, possible stoned, young people, who kept us waiting for both the room, which we paid for, and the towels, which we also paid for (yes, you have to pay for the ragged towels) . I wanted to think that the personnel were really giving it their best shot but had to cut corners due to the recession and whatnot, but it quickly became clear that they just don't care since they are the only hostel in a town full of teenage and twenty-something tourists.
