The only problem with this hotel is that you are torn between staying on the beautiful property and exploring Santa Barbara. This was our first time in Santa Barbara and we went with friends to celebrate my birthday. There was the most decadent chocolate cake, so rich yet light, in our room when we arrived. Service was first class, the rooms were great, the landscaping was a real treat for plant lovers - like Disney on steriods for adults. We had a delicious meal at Tides, but I have to say we were rather disappointed at how casual and noisy it was. The fact that they charge for internet use felt like we were being gouged, but even that could not detract from the elegance and serenity of this hotel. We went out for a bike ride and ended up being out all hay after riding to the Mission and stopping for lunch. We probably could have bought a used bike of similar quality for what we paid the spa for renting it, so be careful on that. We enjoyed a fun game of croquet while drinking a glass of wine.. I do hope we get a chance to go back some time and just relax on the property.
