Our cottage was tastefully appointed with decor that was contemporary and yet reminded us of deepest Provence. Everything was fresh and immaculate, and kept that way with daily maid service. Our romantic private mini-garden was a wonderful secluded place to read and relax. The fact that the beautiful 100 year old house and lush grounds are off the well-beated Santa Barbara tourist track was a big plus for us. However, it was still centrally located enough for our plans, just minutes away from everything.
Our hostess Dominique, an artist and accomplished chef and the other staff members really added to our trip with their hospitality and excellent dining recommendations. The food is marvelous, and we treasured our gorgeous breakfasts in the charming vintage garden as well as the wine and cheese parties in the afternoons and 'midnight snacks' that are left in the kitchen for guests who feel that they need 'just one more thing'. The Secret Garden Inn seems to draw a very nice local and international clientele, and so we had many pleasant interactions with other guests during our stay.
Take advantage of Dominique's unique homemade preserves which you can spread on warm croissants. We were especially enchanted by the Cantaloupe Spice preserve. We felt completely restored after this brief but beautiful three-day getaway. Love this place!
