Watching TV, sitting in bed, something tickling my leg. Hmmm, maybe a loose thread on my shorts. Look under the sheets... An earwig about half an inch long is right there wiggling around!
The good points of the Economy Inn are:
- Free wifi which works well
- Cheap rooms
- Free parking out front
- Clean (other than the earwig)
The downsides of the Economy Inn are:
- It's about a half-hour walk to the trolley stop and then about an hour into San Diego, quite a long journey. I ended up driving and paying for parking in the city instead (there are carparks for about $10 per day).
- The walls are really thin: I could hear when other people had the TV on, when they were talking, when they turned on the shower, when they had trouble switching from bath-tap to shower-head, and when anyone was walking around in the room above mine. The hotel didn't seem busy so it would have been a good idea to space the guests out with empty rooms between, rather than put them all next-door to each other.
I'd recommend it as an overnight stop or as a base to visit San Diego if you have a car. San Ysidro has some fast-food places, lots of gas stations, and lots of money changers, it's a place to spend as little time as possible. If you are planning to use it as a base to visit San Diego, I'd recommend eating in the city before returning to the hotel.
