“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

It didn't look like the usual Motel 6, in a good way. The price was good, the room was big and clean, and the bathroom was great too.
However it did get cold during the night, and the heating system was just too loud.
Also, I wouldn't advise the adjoining restaurant, even with the 10 percent discount.
But I would recommend it to anyone traveling in this area on a tight budget!

Room Tip: Ask for an extra blanket!! (in the winter)

“Of All The Motel 6's I've Stayed At, This One's the Best”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 December 2011

Yes, Motel 6 is a discount motel chain, but I've stayed in several over my traveling experiences and I have to say this one is among their best. This establishment is my go-to whenever I get away to San Simeon/Cambria (so far, 4 times and counting), and each time, the service has been super friendly and the rooms clean and very comfortable. Twice, I stayed here with my dog, and it's good to know there's an affordable option out there for those traveling with their pets.

My most recent stay was in August of this year, and with my husband and two friends from Wales as we road tripped around California to show them the sights. Once again, this Motel 6 did not fail me. The front desk clerk (a gentleman whose name, unfortunately, I can't remember) was super friendly and so very helpful. We wanted to get dinner but it was nearing 9 pm. He let us know when bars and restaurants closed and gave us recommendations on where to eat that was still open.

Overall, great, and I recommend this place for budget travelers here to see Hearst Castle. If all you need is a basic, no frills, clean and comfortable place to stay, consider them.

“Decent price”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2011

Most of the staff was helpful. The young girl checking us in gave us a room that had a view of the ocean and a truly non smoking room. The overall condition of the motel is poor...broken steps, tattered carpet. The bed appeared to be clean, but there were nail clippings and food crumbs around the room that were never vacuumed in the 4 days we were there. However, they were excessive in using bleach in the bathroom each day. Priorities! The motel across the street, closer to the ocean was $10 more per night and the ones right on the ocean were $20 more per night. Motel 6 was ok for the price.

Room Tip: If you don't smoke, make sure they put you in the separate corridor away from the smoking corrid...

“Worst Motel 6”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 November 2011

We have generally had pretty good luck with Motel 6 for one night stays.. This time, however, the beds and bedding were in terrible condition. There was no continental breakfast, but we were told we would get 10% off in the adjoining restaurant. Problem was the restaurant was not open the next morning! ("oops, sorry we lied" was the only response at the desk) All surrounding motels had breakfast for their guests, so there is no competetion for customers. We were pretty much a captive audience for the only independent restaurant around where the breakfast "specials" started at around $18.00!!) Wish we had waited to get to Hearst Castle for something to eat...those prices were more reasonable!

“Great Place to take your Pooch!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2011

Dog lovers listen up! If you ever want to take a weekend trip to Hearst Castle but are worried about what to do with your doggie - worry no more! Motel 6 takes all pets (we have a pit bull terrier) and they let you leave your dog in the room while you explore local adventures. No additional pet fee either!!!

We wanted to go to Hearst Castle for our anniversary but we didn't want to have to board our dog. I called ahead to make sure we could take our pit bull and leave her in her crate when we went on the 2-3 hour tour. They said NO PROBLEM! Not many motels do this. I had to cancel a reservation at the Silver Surf because they had pet limitations.

The motel itself is simple, clean and comfortable. No frills, but a clean room with a comfortable bed. If you want a robe, pastries, a coffee maker etc you will need to bring them but I didn't bother since we were just there overnight. They serve coffee in the lobby and my husband went down to get us a cup in the morning. The restaurant is decent (burgers, salads and such) and you get a 10% discount if you are a guest. The staff was awesome. I had to change my booking from Saturday to Friday (I goofed on what day we were going) and the young lady at the front desk sorted it out for me with no extra fees or issues after I called when we were only a couple of hours away. She even looked up the number for Hearst Castle's reservation line so I could call and bump my tickets From Sunday to Saturday morning.

There are a number of motels in San Simeon, but only Motel 6 made it easy for us to bring our best friend. In the end, that benefit made up for any room service or 5 star accommodations!
