We needed a place to stay in San Simeon before our next day trip to Hearst Castle. Heard some iffy reviews about any place in San Simeon, but this place looked okay. It turned out to be a great place. Very decent price for a great, spacious and fancy room. Beautiful pool and breakfast area. For what you get this place is a bargain. Skip the chains and give the Morgan a try!

We got a free upgrade when we checked in so that never hurts. Room and bathroom was large and with nice windows and a fireplace. It had all the little things: iron, alarm clock, mini fridge, big mirrors, etc. We were on the way to Hearst Castle so it is a great location for that or Piedras Blancas as well. Nice Mexican restuarant right next door and we had no trouble parking.

We stayed for 2 nights. When I checked in the front desk, she gave us a room at the older building. The room look old and smell. I went back and ask to switch to a room in the mail building. It's newer. The room is bigger and look nicer. Eventhough the heather looks like 1950's but it's really keeps us warm.
The breakfast eas egg, bagel, muffin, cereal. They have coffee, tea and hot chocolate all day by the breakfast area. The pool is very small. We didn't use it because the weather is cold.
The location is very closed by to Hearst Castle. They have Mexican restaurant in between the hotel. The food is good but the service is bad.
We saw lots of zebra in front of our hotel. It was so awesome. The first to see wild zebra in the US. We thought we were in Africa.

We spent one night here at the end of a trip driving the California coast from Eureka. The Morgan is easily the nicest of all the places we stayed at during the trip, and one of the nicest hotels we've ever stayed at in many years of traveling.

One nice touch is the decor - reproductions of Julia Morgan's drawings for various portions of Hearst Castle. Also, room keys, not keycards, which have a tendency to fail.

Our King room in the "main" building was very spacious, one of the largest Kings I've been in other than a true suite with separate rooms. Large screen flat panel TV. Gas fireplace. Our second floor room faced the water but the hotel is NOT on the water; there are homes in front of it. No computer in the lobby.

Breakfast included cereals, hard boiled eggs, bagels, muffins, instant oatmeal, orange juice, instant cocoa, coffee, assorted tea packages. And real plates and flatware, not the styrofoam and plastic variety.

Next time I'm in San Simeone, I'll definitely be staying here.
