Great value little hotel: Staff were great and very helpful. Small, but for the price in this part of Marin County, it can't be beat. This was our third stay in as many years and of all the stops we make this is the one which we look forward to. The shopping in San Rafael is great as are the restaurants. It's a good walk into town. San Rafael is very quiet and friendly, and has an amazing amount things going on, especially on week-ends. The hotel has plenty of parking and was well lighted and appeared very safe. The rooms where clean, but it is small hotel and therefore we always book ahead. I think we paid $65 and its a great value. We paid $165 further down the road in one of the bigger hotels and I couldn't see the difference, except i WAS $100 a night better off. We usually stop there as a base for exploring San Francisco and the wine country. Cheers.

NOT WORTH $80 on the OFF SEASON!

This is the type of place where you sleep with your clothes on with one eye open. As a single female traveling alone I didn't feel safe staying here. So my stay at the Colonial lasted for all of 27 minutes. Upon my departure were 3 men attired in black hoodies hanging out 'round their monster truck...hmmmm yeah it's time to leave. But oh yeah the room was clean. They must have homicide cleaners on speed dial....

“Good budget choice for the area”

The San Rafael area has a lot of expensive hotel options so the Colonial Inn really stands out as a good budget option. My room was clean, the bed was pretty comfortable and I was able to get good wi-fi signal. At under $90.00, that is pretty hard to beat in the area.

Clean, basic rooms in a motel-style property. The room could have used a coat of paint, but was otherwise in fine condition. Nice location in a residential part of San Rafael. Nothing fancy, but a good choice for the price.

Location - 20 minutes walk from the City Center of San Rafael. This has a few restaurants that are pretty nice. It's also pretty close to Muir Woods, the coast and a few other nice tourist attractions. There’s not a lot to do in the San Rafael City Center.
Room - Was clean, bathroom clean for as far as possible. Not looking bad for this price. Bathroom however is the smallest I have ever seen. There also is a huge walk-in closet (they should have converted to a bathroom ;-). Rooms a bit older and simple, but it’s ok for a one/few nights stay.
Facilities - TV 80+ channels, bathroom extremely small, wireless internet access doesn’t work in the room the furthest away from the office.
The personnel was very helpful and willing to solve any problem. Because of a mistake they charged my credit card twice. It took a few months for them to credit my account for the 2nd charge. I would not stay here again but I would pay more and get a better hotel.
