“A Little Better than the average Hampton”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2011

I wouldn't normally review a Hampton. I stay at Hamptons a lot for business and they are all pretty much the same. I stayed at this property for 2 weeks this past summer and I feel that I can address some of the issues in previous reviews.

1. Management: David and Lauren were efficient and responsive. The hotel was full most of the time and they handled the constant activity well. I did witness a couple of guests become "un-civil" and both David and Lauren handled the situations professionally.

2. General Noise: It is true that there is a certain amount of noise at this property. If noise bothers you, I'd suggest asking for a room on the 3rd floor towards the back of the building. I stayed in 3 different rooms during my time at this hotel. The top floor at the back of the property is definitely quieter....but you don't want to be right next to the laundry room.

3. Door Noise: Yes this is an issue. Management should probably address the slamming door noises with gaskets on the bottom of the doors.

4. Breakfast: It is true that the eggs and meat are a little dry. If you like slimy eggs and greasy breakfast meat, there are a lot of nearby restaurants serving that kind of food. I noticed that the muffins disappeared early on some days.

Overall, this Hampton was better than most. If you're business/vacation budget only permits you a moderate hotel...this place is worth what you pay.

“Another good Hampton”

Like other Hampton Inns, this is a reliable, no frills hotel. The lower end of the Hilton line, it offers a convenient place to stay for business or pleasure and is not meant to be a destination but a place to hang your hat while you're on the road. It is reasonably priced and a good value.

“Excellent value! Hot Breakfast included...”

We stayed here for 9 days here for 10 days at the end of July. Very good value for our $$. Service was very good...staff Provided milk for our little one on the first night as we forgot to buy some. We had a fridge in our room which was great!

Although quite small, our kids really enjoyed the pool area. Towels were always available, and area was clean. Housekeeping was very good.

Coffee/Tea station and cookies were available throughout the day. The hot breakfast was a great feature with good variety including two waffle makers which our kids loved! A variety of cereals, fruits, juices and yogurt was also provided. The hot food feature included eggs, bacon, sausages, French toast, mini omlettes.you could also grab a brown bag breakfast to go. The variety is great if staying 3-4 days. We stayed longer so the breakfast choices did get boring/tasteless after a few days.

The Hotel is approx. 20-25 minute drive from San Diego. About 10 minutes from Legoland, which is why we chose to stay here. Next time would probably stay in San Diego.

Overall, the hotel was very good value for our family of five.

“Better than any Escondido hotels”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2011

I have stayed at this hotel twice. I have family in Escondido, but the Escondido hotels (Best Western, Comfort Suites), are marginal. The Hampton Inn San Marcos is 3 exits west of I-15 off the 78. 7 minutes to downtown Escondido. 20 minutes from Carlsbad. Just down the street from UC San Marcos. This is standard Hampton Inn. Nice and clean, no frills. But my favorite part is it is small and therefore very quiet. I think there are only about 50 rooms. In summary, if your destination is San Marcos or Escondido, this is a great place to stay if your primary purpose of the hotel is a safe, clean, quiet stay.

“Old and tired”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 August 2011

The hotel has seen better days. Everything down to the towels is old and tired. The walls are thin and you will hear your neighbors breath. Add to this the freeway is across the parking lot. This hotel is not worth the money. Spend it elsewhere.
