Let's qualify this review by mentioning that I only stayed overnight - arrived at 11:00 PM, and was out by 8:00 AM. So, there may be more than meets the eye.
The overnight desk staff was very friendly and helpful. No problems there.
The room was clean, but dark and uninviting, the heater barely kept the room 70 degrees (despite turning the thermostat up to max; it was COLD that night). I felt that the thermostat was only there to make the guest feel good. It does nothing.
The breakfast was unlike any HGI breakfast I have ever experienced. There is no buffet with meat, potatoes, eggs etc. Just cold items on the buffet, and everything hot has to be ordered from the kitchen. Maybe cost effective for the hotel, but not time effective for the guest, who may or may not have somewhere to be in the early morning.
The In-N-out just under the freeway overpass from the hotel was a late evening treat.
In short, it wasn't the worst hotel I've ever been to, but let's just say that there is a lot of room for growth.
