“This Motel 6 attracts a criminal element!”

This is the third time that I have stayed at this motel because of it's central location near downtown San Jose. This will also be the last time. I paid for 2 separate rooms (one smoking and one non-smoking) for about a week. From the first day the odor of marijuana was very strong in the hallway of the upper 2nd floor, where we were staying. There were prostitutes coming and going in the parking lot during the entire the week. The odor of marijuana was almost a constant presence and it was very strong and concentrated near rooms 219 through 224. Both of us had complained many times to the staff and were told that it was hard to track down these offenders. A guest traveling with me had a headache for about 2 days from the marijuana smell. This motel was over priced, front desk service was generally bad, the rooms adjacent to us were noisy up until about 3:00 am and the rooms were rather old and unsanitary. No refunds or discounts were offered to us at check out time for these very bad conditions. The maids however were very pleasant to deal with and we both felt very sorry for them in that they have to clean up the messes these sort of people leave. This motel seems to attract a lower and more criminal class of people. I would strongly advise against staying there.

Room Tip: Be advised that people smoke in the non-smoking rooms. There is heavy marijuana usage at this Motel...

“Fine motel in a decent location, with some local quirks”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2011

I've stayed in this motel many times on business, mainly because it's walking distance from the train station and it's cheap. This is one of the better Motel 6 locations, with renovated and updated rooms. The property itself is well kept, plenty of free parking, a pool. Rooms have a king size bed, fridge, no microwave. If you want to microwave something, you need to go to the lobby and use the one in the breakfast room (where they serve coffee but no breakfast). Be sure to get there before 10:00 p.m. because the door will be locked for the night shift.

Rooms are good and the bed takes up a lot of space. Comes with desk, phone, armchair. No ironing board or iron. Thin but clean towels. Daily maid service if you want it, and all for about $60 a day if you book online. Try Fontanetti's batting cages next door. Fun.

The good: they recently installed washers and dryers for the guests to use in the vending room. $2 a load. Plenty of restaurants within walking distance, bus service right outside, light rail and train service just a few blocks down, and close to the Arena for Sharks games and concerts.

Quirks and problems: there are some obvious lowlife types who hang around this motel. I've seen women dressed like cartoon hookers wandering out at 8:00 a.m. and scary guys hanging in front of my room, who when encountered pretended to nonchalantly ask me for a light for his cigarette. The last time I stayed here the vending machine had been broken into and everything inside was stolen. The neighborhood isn't all that dangerous but it's not all that pristine, either. A few bums and junkies wandering about, and rough characters staying here, plus it's a motel and the only security you have is that window and door overlooking the parking lot.

Overall, it's not bad for the money and I've never had any problems here.

Room Tip: Book a room online at motel6.com and save $10 a day over the lobby rates. Ask for a room on the fir...

“Fine, clean room, interesting neighborhood.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2011 via mobile

We needed a room for one night near a concert we were attending. The desk clerk was pleasant, the room was clean, and there was an interesting bookstore and several adequate coffeeshops and eateries within walking distance.

“Above M6 standart, very confortable and nice!”

Stayed 2 nights in total in different room different times. This Motel 6 has very nice rooms above Motel 6 standard, some of them are bigger (202) some bit smaller (203). Generally for the price you get nice and clean room with microwave and fridge. There is a nice dining are with table by reception (which is not common by Motels 6). Staff very friendly! Night calm without disturbances. However, please don't expect shampoo and hotel class amenities...come on, it's still a basic motel, bud definitely worth staying for the price!

Neighbourhood is calm, Italian and Mexican restaurants nearby. CSV Grocery store is just 5min walk down The Alameda towards HP Pavilion, which is approx 10min walk. There is convenient store 7/11 in neighbourhood too.

Definitely will stay again!

Room Tip: 202 - big, but close to busy Alameda Street
