“DON"T STAY HERE”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

I don't even know where to start. I guilty of reading reviews before I booked and thought all the problems should be solved by now. Well I'm still in my room and wanted to stop anyone else from making the mistake of booking this hotel. The Hyatt just took it over so I'm surprised they even have it open until it's perfect. I passed the hotel several times because there was no signage. The garage had a cone in front of it but the sign said to enter for the hotel. After the cone was moved by a hotel worker I parked in a very dirty loud construction zone. I followed the dirty paper signs that lead me to a dirty elavator to more paper signs leading to the entrance of the building. Opening the door you see boxes everywhere. They are literally unpacking boxes and putting art on the walls. It was hard to find the check in desk as it had stuff all over the place. There are no vending machines you have to go to the lobby which had 6 bottles of soda to choose from and I mean only 6 bottles total. There was no water to be found so one of the employess gave me one from their refrigerator. This morning I went down stairs for "breakfast" no one told me I had to bring a flashlight. That's right there were candles everywhere because the power went out in that area. So unless you want to bring your own water, snacks and flashlight I would stay somewhere else.

Safe travels

“Very good value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 December 2011

Stayed here during a trade show though when I signed up this hotel was a Crowne Plaza. My disappointment at missing out on points was overcome by the great value the hotel offers. Although there is construction going on (it is being converted into a Hyatt) aside from some minimal dust in the elevators you would hardly be aware of that fact. The room was very nicely laid out and the bathroom was extremely attractive with floor to ceiling glass shower doors. What I missed in not having a restaurant (which I never use anyway) was more than made up for by a rate was significantly better then the surrounding hotels.
So summarize - no points or restaurant, a little dust balanced against gorgeous rooms and an incredible rate - I'll take that deal anytime.

Room Tip: Higher floors are above the construction

“Good hotel option for the price/location”

As mentioned in another review, this hotel is turning into a Hyatt Place and is in transition. There is no restaurant. This said, one is within easy walking distance to numerous restaurants. Being from Michigan, it is rare for San Jose to be too cold to walk around. The hotel room was in the process of being updated and it was acceptable to me. I found the room quiet, which I liked. Certainly, one will want to check hotel construction status, but overall this was a good option for the price in downtown San Jose.

“Do not stay here.”

This hotel is currently ( Nov. 2011) undergoing a major renovation programme. It is due to re-open as a Hyatt in Jan.2012. This means that it is a bit like a building site. It also means that there is no bar, restaurant, cafe,or other facilities. Add to that, another building is being knocked down just across the road, also the hotel is directly on the airport flight path. The noise starts at 7.30 in the morning, and goes on all day.
Our room has been renovated, and is very nice, but a nice room on a building site is no good. You will find no mention of any of this on the hotel website, even although the work has obviously been ongoing for some time.

“OK hotel if there are no other choices”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2011

This hotel is about to be tranformed into a Hyatt Place in early 2012. Alot of changes going on right now, restaurants are closed, facade is getting a facelift, lobby is half the size it used to be. It's right in the heart of San Jose, across from the convention ctr and within walking distance of all the restaurants. All other hotels were booked the week I stayed here (not sure why, didn't seem to be a big convention). Rooms are typical for hotels in this category; nothing special but beds were comfortable, TV and heat worked, and Wifi was available (for $10/night). The street car runs right outside the front of the hotel so you will hear the bells clanging early in the morning as well as the construction noise which started around 8:30am. If everything in town as booked again, I wouldn't have a problem staying here, especially once the transformation to Hyatt is complete. Staff was accommodating a place was generally clean.

Room Tip: Avoid the street side due to train noise
