Okay, this review will go against the majority of others but it is what it is.

So on the positive, this place has a very cool bar (with Jazz music) and a nice Italian restaurant adjacent to it. That's it.

Sometimes hotel's have bad karma, and this trip was mine. From the moment I arrived starting with the front desk clerk, the trip was off. The receptionist next to mine gave my colleague, who I was traveling with, cookies upon arrival - mine chose not to until I made a joke out of it and only got the standard cookies then. So not a big deal but indicative of what was to follow.

I had requested a JR suite as I had some meetings. The suite was on the second floor and the road noise was clear. I requested another room as was told that no other rooms were available at the time and would I check back later. I then checked back and was told that another room, would be available but not a suite. After my work day/dinner I went to the front desk to move rooms. I was told I could have the other room but would need to pay my suite price versus the regular room price. At this point in time the Jazz club was alive and well and the sound was going right up the back stairs into my room.

When I engaged with the manager about the absurdity of the situation he was classically bureaucratic. He would yield no ground so if I wanted to get a good night sleep I was going to pay the suite price for a regular room. Un-believeable!

Now about the decor of the rooms. Folks this is anything but a 4 star hotel. I'm talking a blended mix of mauve and brown as decor, out dated and mix matched furnishings, beds that are sponges, bathrooms with signs that say "watch your (abnormally large) step out of the shower", plexi glass mourned to the walls to serve as wall protectors for the doors, hangars that you'd find at a roadside motel complete with the small do not take me tops, no working wireless in either room, a tier three gym and this list went on. MAYBE a two star hotel but that's it.

This hotel has no fear of my return as I will never step foot in it again and I would waive any and every one of my friends off.

I stayed in room 215 and WOW it was large, nicely appointed, and so comfortable. I loved the bathroom -- such beautiful tile and nice bathtub. The bed was super comfortable, slept like a baby. There was even a little balcony to walk out onto. I was here for a large group meeting and the conference room was fabulous. I really can't say enough about how great this hotel was. Stay here for your visits to San Jose!!

We had a fantastic one night stay over the holiday weekend and everything was perfect. Upgrade to the Parlor Suite, you won't be disappointed!

Spent a Friday night here with my husband to celebrate my birthday. Our room was on the 8th floor overlooking downtown.

Check in was smooth and efficient and the two clerks were very nice. Once we got to the room we found a beautifully appointed room and a nice bottle of Cabernet waiting. A nice surprise!

the bathroom was great, nice bath products and good water pressure in the shower.

One cool touch - they have filtered water and ice machines on each floor and provide you with a glass pitcher, so no need to drink tap water or crack open the $7 bottle of water by the bed. They also have the cool "raid the pantry" on the 2nd floor from 10 pm to 5 am. We took advantage of this, after a night out with friends and had sandwiches and cookies.

only disappointment was the Headley Lounge. Drinks were just so so, not nearly as good as I remember. But all in all, a lovely time. Would definitely go back!

I've stayed at many hotels downtown and this is one of my favorites.
