My sister and I were in San Jose to see the US Figure Skating Championships, and we decided to skip the hotels that were tied into the event and go a few miles away from downtown. We chose The Moorpark Hotel because it is a member of the Joie de Vivre group of boutique hotels, and the rates were considerably lower than the larger hotels. We were glad we did. Since we had a car, it was no problem to drive the few miles to the hotel, located just off the 280. We entered the lobby to a warm fireplace and friendly staff. Our room, with 2 queen beds, was quiet (as requested), immaculate, and, like the rest of the property, tastefully decorated. The bathroom looked brand new and was spotless. Beds were cozy, with nice linens and big towels in the bath. We enjoyed cocktails in the bar, served by the friendly bartender, David. For dinner, we crossed the street and found the crowd waiting to get into Tomisushi. While waiting to get in, we had a snack at the lively and interesting Asian market, then sat down to a fabulous Japanese dinner. My salmon was grilled and the best I've had in years. What a find! A terrific alternative to the Applebee's on the other corner. We had breakfast each day at the hotel, which served hot alternatives and terrific quiche, along with coffee with "power"! A real value. All staff were friendly, helpful, and really made us feel at home. I'd definitely recommend this hotel, and will stay there again.
