It’s 2 AM as I am writing this review. I have dreaded staying at this hotel all week because the last time I stayed here (3 years ago) I was on the 2nd floor, and had the pleasure of the Lord of the Dance above me. (they seem to follow me to various hotels) I remembered how thin the walls were then, and now – I am experiencing it again. I can actually hear the person in the room next to me snoring! Amazing. It is one of the most annoying, grating situations, and quite frankly: this should never be experienced in a hotel, especially if you are paying north of $170 per night.
I log over 100+ nights per year in hotels, some years almost 200 nights, so I am very picky. This was the only ‘good-brand’ hotel available as I booked last minute, and I try to remain loyal to Hilton or Marriott. I advanced my stay with a phone call to the front desk to insure that I would be on the top floor. Not only did they put me on the top floor, but they upgraded me to this huge corner suite the size of two or three standard hotel rooms. I walked in to the room with a sigh of relief. Perhaps this will be a good experience? The room is right on Tully street, so already the street noise is an issue. On the nightstand, there is a package of earplugs. Oh no. really? Ear plugs??
Now, is it fair that I am writing a review before my entire stay is completed? I think: yes, considering I am awake and my walls bellow from stertorous breathing… The elevator is right next to my room, and I can hear it mocking me, the neurotic traveler, carrying its weight up and down to each floor.
The good: the room is clean, albeit older furnishings. I have a huge dining room with a small 4-top table and a kitchenette. A new flat screen, and a pretty comfy desk chair, and a desk. The bed is comfortable and sheets are clean. Two air conditioners, which is obviously a waste/poor design. Bathroom is clean and functional.
The front desk staff has been over-accommodating. The late night front desk man made a point to tell me that I was on the top floor before I asked. So, this squeaky wheel was probably just as loud as my snoring neighbor.
I predict a noisy morning. I won’t have time to catch the free breakfast or use the gym, so it’s fair game that I will not mention those amenities. The internet (at this time of night) is very fast, and I am able to stream content on YouTube without issue.
In conclusion – I won’t stay here again because of the noise issue. However, these things tend not to bother most people, so I am rating this hotel as average.
