“Satisfactory accommodations”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

My husband made the reservation for the Arena Hotel, but I was apprehensive about staying there after reading about bed bugs in one of the reviews. Fortunately there was no sign of them in our room. The room was quiet enough for good sleeping, after I unplugged the noisy refrigerator. (There was nothing in it.) We were there to attend a performance at the HP Pavilion, and it is easy walking distance to get there. The reservation was made a couple of months ahead of time, and we were surprised to see that there were still advertised rooms available on the day of our stay, and at $20 less than our prepaid rate. We did not have much time for dinner that night, and so went for fast food at Chipotle's, only 2 blocks away. CVS pharmacy is right next door. I had no concept what the whirlpool bathtubs would be like, but it is set up like a regular hotel bathroom - shower over the bathtub, only this time it is a wide whirlpool tub instead of a basic bathtub. Being short, and older, it was not easy climbing into the tub (with higher sides) for a shower but with care, it can be done. We were not inclined to use the whirlpool.
The sink and mirror are separate from the shower/toilet room and visible from the beds. One has to turn on the light which would disturb a sleeping partner. There was never more than one person at the front desk when we were there, which meant we had to wait to ask questions. On the plus side, parking was free and satisfactory, and the buffet breakfast was good with hot and cold choices.

Room Tip: Request a quiet room with your reservation.

“Good, Clean, Choice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

We stayed at the Arena Hotel after viewing conflicting reviews. So glad we did. It is within walking distance to the HP Pavilion, which is where we were going. Upon driving in, it is very appealing to the eye. You have to know this is an older hotel, but it is very clean, very friendly and very worth the price for a stay. The room has older amenities, microwave, refrigerator, and television, but all worked and were nice to have. The breakfast was good with both hot & cold items to choose from. We would not hesitate to stay here again when attending functions at the HP Pavilion.

“Very Good Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

I paid $85 per night and was very satisfied. PROS: Decent hot breakfast, nice breakfast room, cozy-ish entrance and lobby yet still professional, nice staff, clean rooms, good AC/Heat system, nice bathroom & shower, heat lamp in bathroom. Mattresses good enough but not great. Big CVS next door. CONS (none of these are deal breakers in my opinion): paper plates at breakfast with plastic silverware and styrofoam coffee cups (UHG) !!!! , pillows sub-standard, lighting by sink could be better.

“Cozy get away in the middle of everything!”

This hotel is fantastically located, with food, the HP Pavilion, and the Amtrak station right down the street! It's situated in a little garden area that makes it seem cozy and away from the city bustle. The hotel itself has tons of character! The rooms are clean, with plush carpet, and very large. Mine had a fridge and a microwave! It was also quiet, with great black-out shades and a comfy bed. I slept so well! Parking is free, and so is the internet, which is pretty fast. I highly recommend this amazing hotel!

“Not bad, not great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 November 2011

This was the only non-Motel 6 hotel I could find for a recent 1-night stay there, which was a little disconcerting. The hotel is fairly attractive. I like the way the floors had an open area just off the elevators, instead of stepping directly into a hallway. Room had an unusual odor when first entering, but was not noticeable after a few minutes. Beds were comfortable. Didn't notice any bed bugs. :) Jacuzzi tub was HUGE--nearly twice as wide as a standard rectangular tub, but I don't take baths so this didn't really affect me. The room was a bit drafty, but heater worked fine. Main complaint is that my room faced the street, and at 5am a garbage truck or something was banging LOUDLY--it was so bad it sounded like my window was open, and went on for like 10 minutes. Absolutely no noise reduction, at least from outside. Breakfast buffet was so-so--eggs, pancakes, cereal, yogurt, some fruit. No meat or potatoes. All in all it was okay, but I wouldn't stay here again unless I had no other decent alternatives.
