“Outstanding Bed & Breakfast in the Heart of California's Wine Country”

Superb Bed & Breakfast in St. Helena with Outstanding Personal Service! The Sunny Hideaway is quaint country charm personified with two bedrooms. Our arrival was like coming home with a private check-in, presentation of delicious Zinfandel made by the owner, John, an outstanding breakfast the next morning served by Lisa: fresh coffee, baked apple with cranberries, stupendous homemade croissants and jams, delicious eggs benedict enhanced by scintillating/charming banter with owner, Lisa. Located on the edge of a vineyard under a large, old oak tree filled with chirping birds of all kinds, Shady Oaks Bed & Breakfast is a spectacular get-away not to be missed! Can't wait to go back. It's like having a cottage in the wine country.

Room Tip: The Sunny Hideway is separate from the main house, wonderfully quaint, charming and private

“Home away from home!”

I have vacationed in Napa many times over the last 15 years and staying at Shady Oaks was by far the best choice of all our visits. Why? Location, understated comfort and the owners. When planning a visit, the location of where you stay is important because after a day of wine tasting, you definitely don't want to drive far. Lisa and John have made Shady Oaks so welcoming. From delicious breakfasts, comfy beds to a nice happy hour with wine that John makes himself (a great Zinfandel by the way), you get a since of life in Napa Valley. They are surrounded by vineyards so you can watch beautiful sunrises and sunsets and hear the breezes. We stayed in the Sunny Hideaway so we were in our own little place just steps from the main house. Beds you can sink into and a nice deck to sit out on. John and Lisa will help with dining and winery suggestions if you want as well. If you want commercial and stuffy, go to Yountville but if you want homemade croissants, scrumptious belgian waffles and an understanded, relaxed place, Shady Oaks is a MUST!

Room Tip: Sunny Hideaway is great for a couple, family or a girls weekend because you have the option of 1 or...

“We will certainly stay at Shady Oaks on our return”

Shady Oaks showed us the best that the Valley can offer. The location is perfect, not in the hustle of a town, but not 10 minutes from the action either. It is right where you want to be. We would get up in the morning eat the fantastic breakfast, you cannot miss the croissants or the french toast, and go for walks down to the river surrounded by wonderful vineyards on all sides. The staff was great, Hope was a great welcome in the mornings and the evenings, and Lisa was basically our personal concierge for the entire trip. For the money Shady Oaks is a STEAL!! This was our first B&B and we got first class treatment, followed up by enough privacy.

If you are thinking about staying near St. Helena DON'T MISS SHADY OAKS!

Room Tip: Be sure to ask Lisa where to go to get the best corkage deals, and ask her to assist in laying out a...

“Will definitely return”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2011

My husband & I had the pleasure of staying at the Shady Oaks Inn during our first visit to Napa Valley and we loved it! The location is great, close to everything and Lisa and the other guests were wonderful. Homemade breakfasts and mimosas every am before heading out to the wineries really hit the spot and the happy hour with complemnentry wine & cheese every day was a nice touch.
Lisa helped with dinner reservations and the other guests helped with winery recommendations.
My husband and I both agree we want to come back with friends and take over the whole house next time. If you are looking for a quaint, comfortable, laid back, conveniently located place to stay for your visit to the Napa Valley area, look for further than Shady Oaks in St Helena.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Sunny Hideaway room which has a separate entrance and it was great.

“Lovely Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2011

Although we have been to St. Helena a number of times, we had never stayed at Shady Oaks. We loved our room in the old winery building; it was charming and comfortable. Happy Hour was very nice, and the full breakfasts were delicious. Lisa was very helpful in getting us dinner reservations. Our previously favorite restaurant was out of business, and she suggested "Market" which is now our favorite. We toured the Del Dotto winery close by, and it was by far the best tour and tasting we've ever had. We will definitely get in touch with Lisa the next time we need reservations in the area.
