“Had a great time!”

We really enjoyed our stay at the Ink House. We stayed in the French room which was Elvis Presley's room when he made a movie here. It had a king bed, lots of space, a flat screen TV, and internet access. The room was spotless and charming and very quiet but it was up one flight of stairs. We loved the breakfasts and took home two of their recipes. The grounds are nice and we sampled grapes in their vineyard and walked across the land to free tastings at Whitehall Lane Winery and Franciscan and bought wine at both places. Rachel gave us great recommendations to dinner at Press (steakhouse) and Brassica (mediterraneum), The hot air balloon company picked us up and dropped us back right at the front door - amazing experience! Besides the service and location the best thing about the Ink House was their Winter Special pricing of three nights for the price of two and rates of
under 200 bucks a night which we couldn't find anywhere else in Napa.

Thanks so much for the great time Ink House, we will be back!!!!!

Room Tip: Ask for the winter special and get a free night.

“Good Location”

The Ink House is a average b&b. It is located on the railroad tracks and the highway. The train runs a couple times a day and the traffic is noisy. We used a travel sound machine to drown out the noise. The bathrooms are small with no where to set your bath items. The rooms are fine and the beds comfortable. The breakfasts are pitiful for a b&b in Napa. We stayed 3 nights and had the same type of quiche, fritta or egg bake with a slice of pumpkin bread. Tired of it.
Now the good part of the place is it's location to the wineries. We borrowed the 2 bikes they have for guests. First we had to take them downtown to fix a flat, which by the way we were never reimbursed for. We rode them around one day to the wineries in the area .
All in all good price for Napa and I would stay there again.

“Wonderful little Inn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2011

We came across the Ink House when we visited the property as part of the Napa Valley Historic Barn Tour in August. Their old 1880s barn is great, but the Inn was so charming that we made a reservation to come back and stay as we live pretty close by in Sacramento. We had a wonderful time as we stayed in the Rose Room which is medium sized with a super comfy king bed and wifi and TV. Breakfasts were great as Rachel and Andrea made us Death by Cheese and Huevos Italianos that were so good we took both recipes home -- the real treat was the sliced apples with the warm maple/brown sugar sauce and the fresh figs which all came off trees on the property. We've been to Napa many times, but really enjoyed the recommendations to have dinner at Press (steakhouse) and Cindy's Backstreet Kitchen (duck burger!) and several wineries we had never been to before (Prager Port Works, Van Der Hayden, and Frank Family were all great new discoveries). This place has all the basics down but really stands out for the location with vineyards and wineries all around yet just a minute or two to the downtowns of St. Helena and Rutherford, and the outstanding service from the innkeepers! Another big plus was the Elvis story full of romantic antics about his stay at the Ink House. Thanks so much to all the Ink House staff and we'll be coming to visit again in December.

“I hope to go back someday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2011

Beautiful historic house in a lovely setting even with highway 29 right there (it isn't bad). There is a bus stop for the VINE bus about 5 minutes down the road, near the entrance to Del Dotto winery.
Kevin checked me in and I loved my room. Andrea and Rachel were so helpful during my stay, and friendly to talk to, especially when I was the only guest awake in the house due to the time difference between there and London. I enjoyed the breakfasts of homemade frittata, homemade bread and fruit. As I was there for a wedding, I was never around for the afternoon/evening wine reception and would like to go back someday.
Thank you Kevin, Rachel and Andrea - very impressive!

“Very nice, could be better”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2011

The room was wonderful, and a good value for the price. Our room was at the back side of the house, so the St. Helena Highway noise was not a problem. Not as overpriced as some area B & B's. The location is great, just minutes away from so many wineries. The breakfasts were delicious, and beautifully presented, and the common areas were spacious and nicely furnished. The downside was that the host was not readily accessible other than at breakfast and "cocktail" hour, and when there she stayed in the kitchen for the most part. You had to track her down to get information. She was very responsive and helpful once you tracked her down, but we've had hosts at other area B & B's that were more engaged, often joining the guests for breakfast or afternoon wine. Overall though, it is a great place and we'd recommend it.

Room Tip: Ask for the Austen room - it's at the back of the house and you don't hear any traffic noise...
