“Typical Hotel for the chain”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 February 2011

It's the Econo Lodge - anyplace that has Econo in the name clearly sets an expectation - it's not the 5 Seasons - but it's only $53/night, for a Sat. night! Honestly, there's nothing to complain about with this place. The location seems to be on the border - if you head south on 16th St. then the neighborhood seems to improve quite a bit - but heading north doesn't seem to offer quite the same experience. Luckily, to get to Harlows (which is where we're going to see the Animal Liberation Orchestra) you've got to head south, so no problem for us.
The room is very typical, nothing noteworthy from a good or bad perspective. Free wifi and a fridge in the room are both nice amenities. The woman we dealt with when checking in was the nicest person - she let us check in at 1pm even though check in is 2pm. And she was very thorough about explaining everything to us including how to get to our room, the free wifi, the continental breakfast - she was just a very pleasant person, which is, unfortunately, not the norm when staying at a budget motel.

“Affordable with the most generous and helpful staff ever!”

I found my stay at the Econo Lodge to be very enjoyable. The staff was incredible! They were extremely accommodating for the group I was traveling with. They were very helpful and caring! The room was clean, quiet, and affordable, but the staff was what made my stay exceptional! I highly recommend this hotel, and encourage anyone staying there to ask the staff for advice on tourist info, traveling accomodations, restaurants, or any other questions, concerns, or needs you have during your stay. The hotel is also in a great location; everything is within walking distance. There are also bus stations and taxis (which the front desk can arrange for you) in very close proximity. Enjoy your stay there!

“Great Value”

The man running this place is a very VERY kind man. I was a lone traveler and he took it upon himself to make me feel absolutely safe and secure. He only had a few rooms left and when i checked out a couple *which were smoking* i was put off by the smell so he walked with me until we find a room that i thought would suffice. for him to go out of his way to make sure i was comfortable was more than i could ask for as i was distraught and just looking for a place to get some rest. will definitely stay here again.
PS
yeah some of the folks staying were young and loud (i'm only 25) and it was a bit obnoxious if ur a light sleeper, but i'm not so it was cool. the rooms were as clean as they could be considering the age of the place, *it's kinda old* but worked for me.

“Inexpensive, great location, friendly staff, alot of street noise”

Stayed here night before California International Marathon. Only looking for a cheap place to stay near the shuttle buses the next morning and near restaurants for carb loading. Check-in was great, guy at front desk super-friendly, rooms were okay, about what I expected. Checked out the town after checking in came back in the evening to try and get some rest for our 4:30am wake up call. Beds were okay, they weren't "Heavenly" but neither is my bed at home.
Only downside was that it is either in or close too the seedier parts of town and those sirens and speeding cars/motorcycles sounded like they were traveling right through our room! I know that I can't expect soundproof rooms at this level but I must have woke up at least 6 times during the night.
I would stay here again but not on a night when sleep is of the utmost. Looking right now for another hotel in the area for this years race (high rise, soundproofing = MORE $$$ but worth it in this case.

“As good as 5* places we've stayed at in Sacramento”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 April 2010

Yes, it's a very old "genuine" motel, but is clean, well maintained, perfect location for theater/restaurants, very little street noise, perfectly adequate breakfast, free WiFi, free parking, helpful managers - and great value. When we stay in a hotel, our number one goal is to SLEEP! We have used all the 4* and 5* hotels in Sacramento, and they all have bad street noise, and garbage trucks at 5am in the morning. We much prefer to save $200, and take ourselves out to some of the great restaurants in Sacramento close by the 16 St. Econolodge.
