“Could be better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2011

This motel is well situated close to the city center. The motel is rather old and need be refreshed. In the suroundings, there are many other motels in the same price range whose quality is better. Anyway, we enjoyed our stay in this motel but would not return to it . The rooms could be cleaner... we were surprised that the motel was almost empty !

“Better than expected”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 November 2011

We only had one night in Sacramento so went for a cheap option, not expecting a great experience. The Econolodge was so much better than we expected and very good value compared with other hotels we stayed in on the same trip. The room was a decent size and the fridge was a real bonus as the weather was very hot. The bathroom area was excellent. The included breakfast was basic and had to be collected from the small reception office and taken back to the room but that was OK. The staff member we saw was very helpful and let us leave our luggage all day after checking out. The location is right on the edge of the downtown area, near the big conference centre but a bit of a hike to Old Sacramento - there seemed to be quite good public transport but we didn't have time to work it out!

“Good Value for Price”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2011

After reading reviews, we were somewhat reluctant to stay - it was clean, comfortable & a good value for the money. It was an easy drive from the motel to Old Sacramento for dinner & very easy to get to the state building for our family business the next morning. The staff (Harry) was very helpful with directions, moving our room (we were mistakenly given a smoking room), & took care of our needs. This is a basic hotel of good value & was very easy to find.

Room Tip: Get a room in the back of the motel

“Great Service but Terrible Experience”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 August 2011

This place just doesn't seem to be a very good choice, despite the bargain price and convenience to the convention center. I liked the refrigerator and microwave in the room because eating out is expensive here. The room itself was mostly clean but there was dried food spots on both chairs. Despite being at the back and on the third floor, there was still a lot of traffic noise. The shower made a high-pitched sound when in use and the toilet handle was broken, but that was repaired within the hour. One room I walked by had the door open and two people sprawled out on the bed dead drunk with empty liquor bottles nearby. When we moved our things to our room, the elevator light was out (meaning total darkness once the doors close). Also, the internet was out most of the first day and the power went out in the afternoon. They promised it would be back on that night but it didn't come back on until after midnight. The management said this hadn't happened in 35 years of business. They did bring me a flashlight so I could read and get some work done.To their credit, they gave me a refund for my first night when the power was out. They really tried hard to make my stay comfortable but it's tough in this aging facility. The free "breakfast" consists of pastries, fruit, and orange juice (which was sour the morning I tasted it). The next day I discovered the breakfast is done at 9:30 so don't be late if you want some pastries. I really wanted to like this place because the management worked so hard to fix the problems. But I can't say I would stay here again. I am now in the Hyatt on L Street and miss the empty refrigerator and microwave but *nothing* else!

I am very sorry you experienced difficulties during your stay. All the problems relating to lighting, internet, and subsequent total power outage are all related to a problems with the power lines and transformer coming to the hotel. I do not feel it is fair for us to be given a 1 star rating for these issues which are far beyond our control, as was the timing of the repair, which were the responsiblity of SMUD, our local utility. Remember, these problems all occurred on Sunday afternoon, and SMUD was able to replace the defective transformer by 11:30 pm.

I am sorry you came down late for breakfast, but it does run for 3 hours daily, from 6:30 to 9:30.

“Very good location, quiet and friendly staff!”

I recently spent five nights at this hotel and was very pleased with my choice. Not only was it inexpensive, but it was very clean and the location was perfect! The staff was very friendly and efficient. The convention center and downtown are minutes away. The area gets a bit "shady" late at night due to the homeless population--but I was never bothered or approached. I have already booked a room at this same hotel for next week in order to spend some time with my son, who lives in the area. Incidentally, most rooms have refrigerator and all have wi-fi!

Room Tip: I requested a room on the third floor so that I would not have to deal with loud stomping. Windows...
