Stayed here for a night en route from So Cal to Southern Oregon. Given the selection of other nearby motels, we chose Best Western because of its location and the fact that it has indoor hallways. The neighborhood looked a little questionable, even though (or maybe because?) the sheriff's station is right across the street, so we opted not to stay at Motel 6 (out on the busy street) or the America's Best Inn (looked old and less secure).
First impression: the entry doors (both sets) were broken: didn't shut right, and didn't have the mechanism to hold them open, so getting luggage inside with three sleeping children was impossible.
Second impression: Although the lobby was tidy and fire burning in the fireplace was inviting, the ambiance was ruined by the smell of cigarette smoke, despite the presence of a no-smoking sign just inside the door.
Third impression: As I'm checking in, someone was walking through the downstairs hallways spraying air freshener from a can of Glade. Not good with three guests in the lobby waiting to check-in. In fact, kind of tacky.
Lastly, security: As I approached the door to my room, I noticed it was ajar. In fact, the door did not close by itself, a typical feature of hotel door rooms. After checking the room (including under the beds), I was satisfied it was safe. Hotel staff explained that housekeeping is supposed to check all doors before leaving the floor, but that still didn't make me feel secure, especially since a family member once entered a hotel room only to be surprised by an intruder in the room before she checked-in.
The other clientelle in the hotel looked a little shady frankly. I was put off by the guests strolling the hallways and eating continental breakfast in their pajamas. Overall, I would not recommend this hotel.
