“Nice property and great service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

In spite of other reviews, I found my stay at the Hilton Arden West to be pleasant. Check-in and check-out was friendly and efficient. My room was nice - comfortable bed and great shower. There is a small exercise room that is sufficient. The food in the restaurant was fine, but the service at breakfast was horrible. I had to ask multiple times for refills of water and coffee, and felt like I was imposing upon the server. I was at the hotel for a conference, and the food and service in the conference facility was excellent. Overall, it was not among the best Hilton hotels at which I have stayed, but I would recommend it if you need to be in that side of Sacramento and you find a good rate.

Dear MikeMoAtl,

Thank you for the great feedback about the service you received and for recommending our hotel. I am happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us and were well taken care of by our staff. We do receive many great comments about the comfort of our beds and some guests even go to the hiltontohome.com website and purchase them after staying here.

Thanks again, we look forward to serving you again when your travels bring you back to Sacramento!

“Best option in the area; standard clean rooms with great beds!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 December 2011

I've spent thirteen nights at this hotel during late November 2011 and December 2011. Overall, this hotel is the best option in the area that I've found.

As a Hilton Gold member, I received upgrades on two of my stays to the executive floors (11 and 12) and stayed on a standard floor (8) during the other stay. The rooms are more or less the same between floors, although some have more recent bathrooms then others. I prefer the side of the building facing Highway 80, as it has a more pleasant view. You can hear the freeway a bit, however it didn't bother me.

The rooms are standard. They all had flat screen televisions with a basic workstation desk. As a Hilton Gold member I received free internet, however it was very slow. The executive floor rooms added bathrobes and a cordless phone, from what I could tell. None of the rooms had a safe, which I would consider almost standard these days in a business hotel.

All of the rooms had a single-cup coffee maker, which was actually clean (one of my common hotel complaints). The room on the twelfth floor had a giant bathroom, tub with jets, and a small balcony looking over a junk yard. The lights from the top of the building are very bright on this floor and you have to keep the blinds drawn at night if you don't want a tan, which I didn’t care for as I prefer to wake up with a little light in the room.

The executive lounge had a basic continental breakfast with coffee, pastries, bagels, fresh fruit, fruit juices, hard boiled eggs, cheese, cold cuts, and hot oatmeal. It became a little routine after a few mornings and I had breakfast in the restaurant (they let me upgrade for a few dollars). The restaurant has a similar buffet, but there are eggs, french toast, bacon, sausage, etc. At night the lounge had hot hors d'oeuvres, a very nice cheese platter, vegetables, and some type of dessert, usually cookies and small cake bites. The staff at the restaurant and the lounge were outstanding!

The hotel is by no means a top of the line Hilton. While the rooms are fairly new, it’s only by appearance. The heating system seemed old and my rooms had trouble maintaining a stable temperature and the hallways were freezing. The walls are very thin and you can hear your neighbors conversations, but the hotel is clean and the beds are outstanding! All three stays were very pleasant and I would return if I came back to Sacramento.

Room Tip: I prefer the 11th floor on the Highway 80 side of the building. Ask for a room that's not under...

Dear Dorfer,

Thank you for taking the time to write such a nice review of our hotel and for all of your loyalty to the Hilton Sacramento and the Hilton brand. As a Gold HHonors member your comments really mean a lot to us. I am happy to hear that you enjoy our Concierge Lounge as it is one of the most popular features of our hotel. Many HHonors guests stay here becasue we have the best Concierge Lounge in the area.

You will be happy to hear that in 2012 we will be replacing some of our guestroom HVAC units which will provide much better temperature control and we will also be adding complementary in-room safes during March 2012.

Again, I would like to thank you for being a loyal guest. We look forward to serving you during 2012!

Best wishes for 2012!

“Not worthy of the Hilton Brand”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2011

I have had a couple of stays at this hotel over the past few weeks, and I have to say that overall the property is a disappointment and not up to the Hilton brand standards.

First of all, this property went through a partial renovation a few years ago, and while the beds are comfy and there are nice new TV's, it looks like everything else was neglected to be replaced. The carpets in the room are absolutely flithy and look like they needed to be replaced 10 years ago. The leather desk chairs are all "cracking" and you can see the padding seeping through from underneath. Most of the closet doors are difficult to open. The bathroom is depressing and while there are new counters and floors have been replaced; I don't think the shower curtains have been since the Hotel opened and the lighting is awful. I have also had several rooms with plumbing issues with the Toilets.

Worst of all the HVAC (Heating / Air Condition) units are very old and extremely noisy; to the point I have had to switch rooms a few times because they wake me up when they switch on and off.

Room service and food at the bar are both sub-standard. Many of the menu items that I ordered and hoped would be good were poorly executed (The lettuce wraps come to mind). The Halibut seemed interesting but came served on top of some nasty pancakes. The breakfast buffet was of poor quality as well with cold eggs and nasty looking fruit.

However, what may have enraged me most about this hotel is that I got a small Amazon package delivered during one of my stays. I was shocked that I received a $15 "Package Receipt Fee" on my bill that week. Now, I stay at hotels 150-200 nights a year and sometimes need to receive packages. I have never, ever, been charged such a ridiculous fee to receive a package. When I questioned it the front desk rep said "We pass on what the carriers charge us to receive a package" I don't know what universe this hotel lives in but UPS, FEDEX, DHL, etc do not charge the recipient to receive a package. After 10 minutes of arguing I finally got the charge removed, and have had future packages sent to my office instead; but a very annoying charge and one that is blatant extortion by the hotel.

So lets recap. Rooms are in poor shape and noisy Food is awful. Hotel tries to nickel and dime you for silly charges. This hotel is a poor choice and I highly recommend staying somewhere else.

Room Tip: The property is located next to a major highway and rail line and there is not proper sound isolatio...

“Screwed Us Over”

We are staying here for the california international marathon on Sunday and really regret picking them as a hotel. If you want your race day to go smoothly don't pick them. We called months ago when we made the reservation and asked if transportation was provided to the race start or should we purchase the shuttle tickets provided by the race organizers. The staff told us there was no need to buy the tickets not once but TWICE when we called again a week before the marathon making sure we covered our bases because we have been training for a year for this and don't want to miss the frickin race. Now online ticket sales for the shuttle are closed and you can only buy them at the Expo which we now have to hope for good weather and pray we make it in time to buy the now overpriced tickets. Seriously guys, way to make my marathon experience more stressful. Oh yeah, Robert, the guy we were supposed to talk to if we had any issues is out of the office until after the race!!!! We were able to reach Brianna the manager and she said it isn't their fault their employees told us TWICE incorrect information. This hotel is terrible and I hope enough people complain that CIM removes them from their list of recommended hotels.

Dear WB,

Thank you for taking the time to let me know about your recent stay. I am sorry to hear that you had some confusion about transportation to the marathon. I take your comments very seriously and am concerned about your confusion with the shuttle. As I am sure you could tell we had 100's of guests staying here for the marthon which had no issue shuttle reservations. If you have time I would really like to talk to you about this as we had many outstanding comments from guests staying here for the 2011 marathon and some have even told us they are ready to make reservations for next year.

I would like to invite you back for next years event if you are planning to attend and will be happy to set up reservations and help you set-up transportation.

“Nice hotel but a little further away then I would have liked.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2011 via mobile

My wife and I stayed here for one night in October. We had a nice time and enjoyed the hotel. We are HHonors gold members so we recieved free wi-FI which I think now should be offered in all hotels. It was a little further away from cal expo and the mall then I would have liked forced us to drive or use taxi service but non the less was a clean and nice hotel. Staff was friendly and helpful. They gave us a free appetizer coupon upon our arrival, I prefer the Hilton hotels because we seem to always get good service from them and thy are clean.
