“Don't Go!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

For those of us who forget to read reviews--read them!!!

I recently stayed (1/17/2011) at the Red Lion on Arden Way in Sacramento CA. This is what occurred:
1. Was initially given Room 114, when I gathered all my bags from car and walked up a flight of exterior stairs the electronic keys to the room did not work. I called down to the front desk and they asked me to come back in. Really, why wouldn’t they have created new keys and sent someone up to me.
2. Upon my return to the front desk I asked if they had any interior entry rooms instead of the exterior ‘motel’ type.
3. I was given Room 702 in a building (3-story) across the parking lot from the main entrance. The keys did work this time to both the exterior door and the room door.

However……
1. Bathroom:
a. One toilet paper roll was left empty….there was just a paper roll with a 1/2 sheet hanging off of it.
b. Razor blade cover left in shower soap dish
c. Tub drain not attached
d. Shower mat black dirt (mold)
e. Shower caulk moldy and missing in some areas
2. Stain and dirt (leaves) on floor around microwave oven area
3. Coffee cup dirty
4. 1st Floor ice machine did not work (empty perhaps)

One nice quality (small as it is) the small (boxed) soap provided was nice.

This is what is advertised on your website for this location:
You can expect the royal treatment in Sacramento. Our 270 newly renovated guest rooms, including 3 suites, feature all the amenities you would expect of a first-class hotel, including free wi-fi access, dataports, 25" color televisions with cable and movie channels and laundry facilities.

I did not experience anything of a royal treatment of a first-class hotel or a newly renovated guest room.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else.

“good value for a clean motel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

I just stayed here for 4 nites as I was attending a convention at the Doubletree which is across the street. The room I had (128) was in the main bldg and very good as I got it for $60 on the Red Lion website. Rms across the street were $?130 so I fekt this was a good value. Based on the reviews I was a little leery of what the room would be like but I was very pleasantly surprised. Huge, big room with large closet. Two double beds not queens but they were more than fine and comfortable. Decent tv, not a flat screen but still fine. This is an older property and the complex is huge. Probably 6 or 7 seperate buildings. This was not built as a Red Lion however the furnishings are the same as other Red Lions I have stayed at. I did not have a car and my ability to walk to the mall next door where there was a few restaraunts to choose from was nice. I walked everywhere and not sure where the 'scary' characters in the parking lot was but there was nothing that I would have been concerned about. Yes the rooms are on the older side, however the room and furnishings were all in good shape. I did stay in the main bldg. The heater worked fine but yes its an older forced hot air furnace and the weather was cold however everything worked. I ate in the restaraunt every morning and service was a little on the slow side considering most mornings I was alone or perhaps 3 people at the most, but the food was more than adequate. I liked the motion sensor lights that turned on when you entered the unit or the bathroom. The soaps and shampoo was from Bath and Body Works and were quite nice.
I think for the price I paid I was more than satisfied and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property for those seeking a modestly priced hotel

Room Tip: Its such a large complex I'd suggest requesting a room in the 'main' bldg.

Paint pelling around door and nicks and cracks in walls.
Grout in floor tile dirty.
Toilet seat our of alignment.
Only 1 chair for 2 people.
Coffee pot broken.
Sliding door unlocked.
We pre-paid $74.25 + $9.61 = $83.96, but we received a receipt for $54,20 + $7.75 = $61.95
Questioned this with the clerk and all we got was a srug of the shoulders.

Room Tip: Stay at the Doubletree

“Incompetent manager”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011

I just returned from a stay at the Red Lion in Sacramento, Ca. on December 19, 2011. During my stay I attended a small jazz concert in JB's Lounge. Since I could not get a waitress to come over and take my food order, I went in search of the gift shop (no longer there) for a snack. I put a dollar bill in the only vending machine in the lobby and got nothing. I asked the girl at the front desk if I could have my money returned and her response was that it was not the hotel's responsibility, I would have to call the vending company. I asked her to call the manager, who took several minutes to appear. When he did, he was rude and annoyed that I wanted my money back. He was very difficult to communicate with having a heavy East Indian accent. I insisted he return my money and contact the vending company himself. He insisted I sign for it and asked my name. "Shirley Temple" I relpied. "Ah yes, I've spoken to you on the phone before," he insisted, "I remember you Shirley!" Well, I got my money back, and laughed all the way back to the lounge. Don't stay here, the place is remodeled, but the budget for good people has obviously been cut.

I apologize that the quality of the service you received was not reflective of our service standard here, and that is to provide excellent service to all of our guests. Although, it is true that our vending machine services are not directly maintained by hotel staff, I apologize that your concern was not addressed properly. I hope that you will please join us again and allow us to show you the excellent customer service that we strive to show all of our guests.

Thank you very much,
Max Lessman
