Even if you didn't smoke they charge you the $200.00 extra. Bad location. Will never go back.

Our car was vandalized, three windows broken, things stolen - and the Best Western Expo hotel did NOTHING about it! If you want details, read on.

We were traveling north from southern california to Washington state. We decided to drive to Sacramento the first night, then continue on to Ashland, OR the next day. Since the Best Western chain was offering a "stay 3 nights, get one free" deal, we booked at least 3 nights at various Best Western hotels along our route.

This hotel is not in a very good part of town, but not being familiar with Sacramento, we didn't know that. Most of the restaurants in the area were small, catering to the Asian population. We found a mediocre Outback Steakhouse nearby. We ate and then settled in for the night.

In the morning we came down to load the car, only to find that three windows had been broken and various items stolen from the car. After contacting the police, we tried to get some information from the hotel: "did anyone hear anything? see anything? report anything? are the surveillance cameras even working? They were very quick to tell us that there is a sign posted in the parking lot stating they are "not responsible for theft or damage" in the parking lot. One sign - and we're supposed to see that in the dark?

We were able to find an auto glass shop that was open on Saturday and just happened to have one-each of the three windows we needed to have replaced. The police took a full report and said they would ask to see the tapes the following Monday. We told the desk clerk on duty that we would call throughout the next few days to see if anyone had found anything.

On Monday we called the hotel and asked to talk to the manager. She was curt and very unhelpful, again stating emphatically that the hotel is NOT responsible for our loss. She could (or would) not tell us anything about the video cameras in the parking lot, which were aimed directly at our car and would have given the police a pretty good idea of who the culprits were.

On returning from our vacation we were asked to fill out an online evaluation of the hotel. In the comment section we mentioned that our car had been broken into and that we were very unhappy with the response of the hotel management. We got an immediate reply: "thank you for your evaluation. We are sorry you were unhappy with our hotel. Please tell us how we can improve our service". We did. And the manager sent us an email asking us to contact her directly - but with a "do not reply" email address. We then contacted BW corporate customer service and told them what had happened and that we were very disappointed with BW's response. Their response was basically a disinterested kiss off, advising us to contact the hotel.

If you MUST stay at this hotel, please know that this seems to be a higher than normal crime area. Take EVERYTHING out of your car when you turn in for the night. And know that if your car is vandalized or damaged, the management of Best Western and/or the Best Western Expo will NOT help you!

Stayed here 1 night and wouldn't recommend it for longer. Most of the Best Western's I have stayed at have been a pretty good value for my money. This hotel is in need of some serious updating. My non-smoking room was definitely smokey and musty and questionably cleaned. I was unable to alter the room a/c- it was fixed and there were numerous nystery stains on the floor. Not worth the price I paid for the overall conditions. On the plus side, staff were very friendly.
