My husband, 1 year old son and I needed an inexpensive hotel to stay one night in for our early flight out of the Sacramento airport the next morning. This La Quinta was perfect. It was comfortable, the beds were great, and even though it is right off the I-5, once your door is closed, you don't hear a thing. We would stay here again if we needed a quick stay in the Sacramento area. If traveling with an infant, I recommend calling and asking for a travel crib to be added to your reservation. They only have so many and when we got there, they were out. Luckily, we reserved a king bed, so our little guy snuggled with us. :)
The only hiccup we had was our first room smelled horribly of cigarette smoke. We asked to be moved and they got us right into a fresh and clean-smelling room.

Downtown is a bit of a misnomer for this property, but the sacramento tourism people call this area downtown, so I guess they'd know. About 2 miles from Old Town Sacramento and what you'd realistically call downtown.
Ask for a room on the river side, as opposed to the highway side which faces the I-5. The room was quiet, clean, simple. Breakfast wasn't bad, everything you expect from this type of hotel.
Wifi in my part of the building was very weak, but there was free wifi all through the hotel.
There is not much nearby, a McDonalds and a couple of gas stations.
The free airport shuttle was great, and I was able to check in at 8am and get breakfast for that day, so I can't fault that service.

We arrived by train and called for the free shuttle which arrived in less than 15 minutes and that is just the start of the great service we received. They gladly shuttled us to and from Old Town and once again to the Capitol Mall. The rooms were very clean, quiet and well furnished. The location right where the American and Sacramento Rivers meet at Discovery Park made for a wonderful morning walk just behind the Inn. The deluxe breakfast was well attended and included a myriad of choices. If in Sacramento stay here!

Stayed several days at this property on a leisurely trip to the Sacramento area. The room that we were given had a "wet dog" odor that made our stay very unpleasant. La Quinta's liberal pet policy has caused us to think twice before booking a room at one of their facilities in the future. We have run into this problem at other La Quinta properties but this one was the worst.
