“By far the nicest place to stay in Sacramento”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2010

I have never previously written a hotel review but the experience at this inn is so exemplary I am moved to share it. As a frequent business traveller in CA I have stayed at many hotels and B&B's throughout the state. By far, the Inn at Parkside is my favorite. From the warm and friendly staff, to the luxury bedding and bath products, and the unique decor of each room, -the overall ambiance is serene yet luxurious. Even the coffee is great! I have been able to relax like I am right at home but have also been very productive and even pampered. It is so good to find a place that does everything well.

“Great local getaway”

My husband & I stayed here for 1 night for a quick local getaway. The neighborhood is a little shady and the inn is right across from a children's playground, so on weekends the rooms facing the front (we stayed in Lounge, which has a balcony facing the park) can be a little noisy during the day. The buildings were lovely on the inside, but can be easy to miss from the street. It seems like the neighborhood used to be very nice and has since fallen into some disrepair. I wouldn't be comfortable walking around this area at night, but if you're only coming to stay & relax indoors at the inn, it's fine. We had couples massages, which were in the same building as our room, actually right down the hall, which was really convenient. That being said, the one downside of having the treatment rooms on the second floor between 2 guest rooms and across from the stairs is that you can hear people talking in the hallway or in the guest rooms while you're getting a massage, which is a little distracting. The breakfast was delicious- we had crepes, fruit and yogurt, and it was delivered to our room, so we ate on our balcony (overlooking the street, but still). I think this is a great little getaway, especially if you're local and aren't looking to do a lot of sightseeing while you're here, as there's not much to walk to from the inn. It was perfect for our needs and we'll definitely be back! Also, they have really discounted rates for midweek stays & spa treatments, if you're able to do it then.

“They've lost our business”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2010

We were repeat guests, having stayed at the Inn once or twice a year for the past 3 years while visiting friends in Sacramento. Each of these visits has been with our son-- as a baby and now as a toddler. However, this last time we came with our toddler and new baby and unfortunately our baby had a rough night, crying at 4:30 a.m. much to our chagrin and I'm sure the dismay of any other guests within earshot. April, the manager, has now told us we are no longer welcome while the kids are small and that Diane, the former owner, had made an exception to their no-children policy (which was never mentioned to us nor appears on their website) to let us stay there in previous years! This surprises me since they have always offered to set up a complimentary portable crib for us and Diane had always been very happy to see our family. I have learned that Diane (a very warm, kind woman who is also a grandmother) is no longer the owner of the Inn and the tenor of the Inn has certainly changed with her departure. I asked April if they could have recommended a room for us that had better sound proofing, since I had notified them in advance that we were coming with a baby and indeed, she named a few different rooms that could have minimized unpredicted disruptions to other guests. However, no one brought this up or suggested other rooms to us before we checked in.

The Inn is lovely and we've enjoyed our stay there prior to this one. They seem to want only adult guests now and are discouraging families from staying there. It's a pity since they often have rooms available and there is a huge playground and park directly across the street. I would think in this economy it would be unwise to cut out a whole demographic of guests, but perhaps that's why the Inn is now in receivership by the bank.

I truly understand and understood how upset you were and tried to relay my sympathy for your situation that day and again later during a phone coversation. I was simply trying to relay to you the views of our other guests. My staff and I received several complaints that morning from couples that were staying with us as a getaway or to celebrate special occasions that Saturday evening. As the Manager, my goal was not to make you feel badly. I felt as though something had to be mentioned on behalf of our other guests who voiced that they were inconvenienced. I did mention that a future stay on a busy weekend evening may not be the best situation for a family with small children. However, I never meant for you to feel that you are no longer welcome and apologize again if that is how you feel. Being our rooms are geared towards a two person occupancy, we are not necessarily ideal for a family stay. Not that we don't allow families to stay with us, it is just not a typical reservation request. Again, I apologize if anything I've said in our past conversations was misconstrued as anything other than a simple mention of the disappoinment of our other guests that evening. I realize you have decided not to return in the future and we are sorry to lose your business.

“Wonderful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 September 2010

My Husband and I decided to get away from "it all" for two days. We have never been to The Inn and Spa at Parkside and live about 20 minutes away. It felt like we had traveled to a different place and time. We stayed in the "Happiness" room and it was perfect. We had a tub jacuzzi in the room and we used the outside jacuzzi as well. Breakfast was perfect the following morning.

We will definitely be coming back!

“Elegant Home Away From Home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2010

I highly recommend the Inn and Spa at Parkside. It is a beautifully restored 1930s Spanish Revival home in a lovely setting, under large trees and across the street from a park. The home has a fascinating history tied to Sacramento history and old photos are hung on walls for the vistior. The owner also knows a lot about the house and loves talking about it.

The best part was that the owner made us feel very comfortable and welcomed. We were visiting friends and family in the Sacramento area and were able to invite them to sit in the living room and patio and entertain as if it were our own home. But, better than our own home because there was no preparation and no clean up, just this beautiful older home with a really good feeling. It was like being at home away from home.
