“Historic property. Needs maintenance/updating. Not a good value.”

We stayed in the two bedroom/one bath #200 above lobby. No elevator. No bellhops. We were strong enough to schlep large bags upstairs ourselves thankfully since the lovely desk lady, Rowena, would not have been able to help. Most of the lights in the room didn't work: bulbs out, frayed cords, no switches, some plugs not "hot"...Nice rustic decor, Early California. Appreciate the history and charm. Beds were new and fine. Pillows old/bad. Fireplace was nice, woodburning. Heater barely heated the rooms. Nice kitchen with full sized fridge. Had sodas/waters stocked. Dated, but clean. Bathroom was clean, but shower mix it valve broken meaning water alternated between scalding and freezing. When wbut dated. We tried to turn water from tub to shower, it wouldn't work. Had to go downstairs in my robe to be told, "pound the button hard, then pull up." Tub wouldn't drain. No action when reported.Front Door didn't lock most of the time. The desk ladies, including Rowena, were very nice and allowed us to print boarding passes at front desk. Breakfast was included, and croissants, coffee, fruit was good. This room did not have a balcony. So, the price of this room was high, and increased on Saturday night to almost $400. There are many many nicer newer places to stay in Napa area for that kind of money, especially when it is clear that the owners do not do maintenance or repairs often. We reported a severely frayed old light cord because of fire concerns when we arrived, and it was repaired while we were at dinner by wrapping electrical tape around it...This could have been a fire hazard. The charm, and beautiful woods, doors, wrought iron and furnishings were very nice. The rustic California feel of the property, including the garden was great. The location in Rutherford is central, and close to everything. Lovely area. Quiet. If you are a family who want a place you can beat up, with a kitchen, this is your hotel. But when you can't take a shower without being scalded/frozen and when the front door of the room will not lock...what more can we say? We will not be returning. Unfortunately.

Room Tip: There is only one two bedroom, so #200 is your only choice.

“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011

Great place to stay in Napa. Directly behind the Rutherford Grill, and BV winery you can walk to dinner if you are too tired to drive anywhere. Fireplaces in the rooms (REAL ones!) and comfy beds. We've stayed here twice. Rooms are clean and although it is an older hotel, it has lots of history. Good value for the $$.
They could do better on their 'breakfasts' now that they have a restaurant. We tried to get a booking for dinner but they were full, but we'll try again next time! There were some chefs staying at the hotel while we were there for some sort of event and they were a bit noisy in the very early morning and late night hours.

Room Tip: Ask for the second floor, in one of the corner king rooms, toward the rear of the hotel. Quieter.

“A lovely stay - but make sure you get the right room.”

I stayed at this Inn with my 90 year old mother. We had a fabulous stay. At first they were going to put us in Room 101. Since we were going to be hanging out in the room quite a bit, a patio overlooking a blacktop parking lot and a window view of the resturaunt was not going to cut it. I went back to the lobby and the woman behind the counter was all over it. She upgraded us to the second floor, which made all the difference. Our private patio did not have a great view (someone's back yard garden) but it was pleasant. Our view out the front window was of the lovely courtyard trees. The rooms are so cozy, with wood beams, tile accents and a gorgeous stained glass in the shower. In the evening we sat out in front of our room, sipping wine and chatting to the bubbly sounds coming from the courtyard. The location is wonderful - an easy trip into St. Helana for shopping, and be sure to walk and eat at the Rutherford Grill. They also do take-out and are considered to be a local favorite. We found the front desk to be quiet helpful and I like going into the lobby to hand select a DVD for viewing in the room. All in all it was enjoyable.

However, if we had stayed in room 101, I think I would have had an entirely different experience. So...stay here, enjoy the non-sterile and unique experience of staying at an Inn, but grill the front desk on which room you are booking. Make sure you do not have a room overlooking the parking lot, and that you have a full view of the courtyard out your window. We enjoyed the second floor, but the first would have been okay too.

Room Tip: See above...but in general avoid room 101 or 201.

“Great location and price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2011

My husband and I stayed at Rancho Caymus for three nights, along with some friends. The location is great - close to wineries, down the street from Rutherford Grill, etc. As mentioned in previous posts, the rooms could be updated...but they are very clean and I liked the fact they are a little "rustic". It's not The Ritz, but you're not paying those prices either. We stayed upstairs in a king suite. It was too hot to use the fireplace, but that would be nice. The courtyard outside was great; we would meet for "happy hour" every night before dinner after a quick trip to Dean and Deluca's down the street.

Room Tip: We noticed the ice machines are by rooms 103 and 104 - I would probably try to avoid.
