My husband booked this due to price and location. It does not look nor represent a Howard Johnson Express that we are all so familiar with. This looks more like a bad dream. When
we walked into the room and turned on the lights I looked to see if anything was crawling along the walls or ceiling. (there was not)
At the front desk they changed $2.00 and said if we did not use the safe we could get it back in the morning. In the morning the staff said they do the charge not for the safe but to make sure if the place is damaged they have a card on file.
I would suggest NOT STAYING HERE....... for any amount of $$$$

Arrived after booking 4 nights on hojo.com always thought they were a reputable hotel chain. The check in was fairly quick but they deducted 4 nights from my CC before we saw the room.
We we got to the room (#133) the front door was damaged, but this hardly prepared us for the horror when we opened it. The chairs were stained and bug infested, one light fitting was loose with bare live wires, the fridge was unclean, the A/C box would slice off your fingers if they got close. The enamel on the wash basin was worn away and harboring all sorts of bugs, I have never seen a toilet seat so worn. The shower surround was filthy, so was the coffee jug. The bed felt like a bison had been sleeping in it and I am sure it was flea ridden.
On reporting these points to the reception, I could tell that they were quite used to this and plainly did not care. They offered a move to room 234 (the walkway on this floor is seriously dangerous and will probably fall down in the next 6 months), but said that I would find fault with that also. So regrettably we decided to stay over and leave in the morning. Following morning we discovered a blood stain on the carpet and that the bath/shower had no running water (probably just as well).
Before we left we took photos and videos so will probably upload a video nasty to youtube soon.
Left as soon as we could the following morning. Have emailed a report to hojo but judging by earlier comments I am not expecting much. Will try to get a refund from by CC company.
Would I recommend this place? I'd rather gnaw off my foot than stay here again!!!

The staff is freindly and lobby is the only decent section of this hotel. My wife walks down the creaking plywood floor on upper level to our run down room and being 106 goes and turns on the AC. The AC unit is a window mounted unit stuck into the wall with putty...GHETTO. It blows dust and other stuff right in her eyes that took 2 days with eye wash to get out.. Theres mud chunks on the carpet and cigertte burns in our blankets in a non smoking room. I go and take a peepee and lifted up the toilet seat to find thick dry urine and pubes on the rim. The urinals at AMPM are cleaner. So all in all I would NEVER stay here again! But if you pass threw redding and are hungry hit up lumber jacks, that was a good restraunt with denny's prices but better food and great service.

I wish we had read Trip Advisor before checking in at this hotel. Believe the reviewers. This hotel is NOT CLEAN. The carpet was filthy. My two children had black feet and legs after just a few minutes of play time.
The beds were decades old and squeaked horribly even if you just moved a millimeter! We could not sleep because we felt like we were being bitten by bugs. Ultra gross.
The "high speed" internet did not even exist. They couldn't get it to work and wanted us to call tech support!
The "breakfast" was nasty coffee, stale donuts, and generic fruit loops. We ate out instead.
DO NOT STAY HERE! Your car is much cleaner and more comfortable if you are desperate!
