I have stayed at this property both when it used to be a ritz carlton and when it was taken over by rock lodges. It was fabulous as an R-C, still good as a Rock Lodge, but I have to say that this time it's awful.
We booked a golf package and then when we got here, 2 of the 3 golf courses that were included in the package were closed, and there is no longer a golf concierge to deal with this change of 'plans.' It took a half hour to get oatmeal and hot water from room service although the occupancy of the property was only 15%, and the order was missing half of what was requested. IThe tv is tiny and ancient and the cable kept going in and out without any help from the front desk. I have the sense that for some reason the staff is miserable here and take it out on guests.!
I've read that maybe the R-C is taking over again, and that would be great. As it is, it feels like there is no training and no standards for the people who work here--as if they picked everyone up at the temp agency.
Exceptions would probably be the bellman and the fact that there are 2 great PBS stations on tv. And the location is still incredible. Still, I won't be back anytime soon, because my husband and I both used to work for the Four Seasons...we understand that one bad experience shouldn't taint you forever, but there are so many other places to choose from here that there's really no excuse. Maybe if the Ritz takes it over again, we'll consider. By the way, while we're bashing it...years ago a good (and gay) friend of mine came here with his husband and told me they were treated horribly by the staff--openly not respected nor acknowledged--and this was a couple of years ago when it was still a Rock Lodge but still good in my book. So there. Let's go Ritz!
