“Dirty and noisy”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2011

The only good aspect of this hotel was that it was very cheap (about $40 total through Priceline). However, after staying here, I would not have found that the low price was not worth the very low quality.

The first room they assigned to me had not even been cleaned by housekeeping staff. I opened the door to find the lights on, the beds unmade, and used drinking cups sitting around. I had to go back to the front desk to ask for a different room.

After receiving a short and insincere apology about their mistake, I received a key for another room. However, the key did not work on the door, so I had to return to the front desk for a second time.

When I finally received a key that worked, I found that the second room was apparently "cleaned" by staff, but it was still very dirty. The toilet seat had wet streaks of pink cleaner on it, with pieces of thick dark hair sticking here and there. There were soap bar deposits on the shelf in the shower, making me think that virtually no effort at all was put into cleaning the place. The entire room also had a very strong mildew smell, which made me sick to my stomach. The beds had a regular sheet and covering, but the mattresses themselves were covered only with single sheet -- there were no mattress covers. So that means the only thing separating you and the very mattress that many others have slept on was a single thin and dingy sheet.

There was also a strange knocking sound coming from within the walls that continued all night, making it difficult to sleep. I couldn't tell if it was the plumbing, or something else.

Because of the filth and smell, all I wanted to do was spend as little time within the room as possible. I was not expecting a whole lot from a 1-star hotel, but cleanliness should not be compromised no matter what type of hotel you run. No one could pay me enough to stay here again, and I would never recommend this hotel to anybody else.

“One of the noisiest locations I've ever seen”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 December 2010

This place has the misfortune of being in one of the noisiest locations I've ever seen. The hotel is lengthwise parallel and only about 20 unimpeded yards from 8 roaring lanes of interstate on U.S. 50 (aka El Dorado Freeway). It's something you pick up on immediately, and with longer term guests already having sewn up the rooms not facing the freeway (and with half of them to fill facing it), guess which side you're going to be assigned to if you're staying for a short period of time? And don't expect the desk to be much help. I don't know if this place takes Priceline/Hotwire bids (in which case you're going in blind), but if on a non-blind site like Expedia, do take the high traffic-noise factor into account.

I don't know the history, but it very much looks like other places along U.S. 50 were built before the big widening was needed and never in anticipation of it. Maybe the city fathers will get noise-abatement barriers, which are much-needed. The situation could be worse...most of the traffic whizzing by is cars, so at least it's a consistent roar (I-40 in West Memphis and I-35/80 in Des Moines have lots of loud trucks in the mix, so I'd have to rank them worse).

Room quality was consistent with the chain and as expected, i.e. very basic and with a smallish room and things a bit tired by other hotels' standards but functional. It's not quite Motel 6 (some things aren't bolted down and you do get a bedspread). It's on a street with other hotels that's zoned to be in the U.S. 50 corridor but unfortunately is now too much in it. At least you do get pretty good access to it and the exit isn't far away. Sacramento has become a bit of a sprawler, though, so if your focus is downtown, the airport or Davis, you've got 7-8 traffic prone miles to get to this place.

“Kind of like sleeping in a first class slum”

The good: a kitchenette with ceramic dishes & a coffee maker
The bad: funny smell, freeway noise, cheap TV & bed
The ugly: overflowing metal trash containers in the middle of the halls

While the room didn't look that dirty, walking through halls filled with overflowing trash cans combined with the room's odd smell made me want to avoid touching much of anything. It was less expensive than the neighboring much nicer hotels but I was hoping it was going to be as nice as other two star hotels where I have stayed that have been far better than this one. Had I paid a any more, I would have felt cheated, Other than the kitchenette with ceramic dishes and cookware--that I didn't need except to make one pot of low quality coffee with the one packet they provided--it had no other frills. Its tired furniture looked it could have come from a thrift store. There was no iron/ironing board, there was no hair dryer, no shampoo, no conditioner, no lotions, no complementary breakfast, it was the first hotel I've ever stayed where they don't even provide wake-up calls. The TV looked like it was made in the 1990s and had bad reception, the bed was like sleeping on a fold out sofa and its less than comfortable mattress was more noticeable because it wasn't easy falling asleep with all the freeway noise.

“Cheap, Clean, and Secure- Hard for a Solo Female Traveler to Ask for More”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 December 2009

I found this hotel on priceline, and for $35 (including tax), I considered it a very good price indeed. I've certainly paid more to stay at less nice places. The gentleman manning the desk guessed my name as I drove in (I arrived at 10:30, likely one of his last check-ins of the night) and had a card key ready for me. He gave me a code for free wireless internet, which was nice. The hotel is motel-style, but I found the corridors free of trash, debris, and drunks as previous reviewers have indicated. It was neatly swept but industrial. Inside the room it was barren but clean and sturdy. The heater worked, and the bed was clean and neatly made. I found no flaws with this stay.

Quite close to the highway, but I heard little street noise. The only detraction for me was that it was evident that many folks used this for extended living, which seemed a bit awkward.
