We were in the area to visit with family for Christmas. The hotel was very quiet and far from full as it was the holiday week-end, thus no business travelers.
We were very comfortable there and would have liked to stay longer, to spend more time touring historic Folsom, several miles East of the conveniently located hotel --- off Highway 50 on the Sunrise exit.
We specifically chose this hotel as we had found it challenging to find a place to eat breakfast on Christmas Day last year, when we stayed at another hotel in that area (which did not serve breakfast). The delightful staff cheerily welcomed us this morning with holiday greetings and made us omelets-to-order and stocked a buffet with a variety of cereals, breads (bagels, English muffins), juices, eggs, potatoes, pancakes, french toast, bacon, coffee/tea, etc. Much better than having to stand in a long line at Denny's up on Sunrise.
The suite was comfortable, with attractive furniture in microfibers. Orange, sand/taupe, dark brown theme. Some of the furniture was a little beat up but the lighting was adequate and modern and the 24-hour free internet didn't take too long to get onto. Much appreciated. Also, it was a very chilly overnight and the heating system not only worked perfectly, it was extremely quiet. Rare.
The pillows were fantastic and the King bed quite comfortable, with the beautiful comforter, encased in a duvet. The room is small however. For those who stay longer, there is a small closet (with iron/board) and a couple of drawers. TV in the bedroom was not a flat screen --- that was in the living room. Also in the living room was the fold out couch (with huge pillows), a shelf, desk, office chair, huge upholstered ottoman and the small fridge and microwave. Bar fridge wasn't so cold so we weren't sure it was working property.
The transition from the bedroom to the bathroom (with the pocket door and heavy-duty exterior door on the bathroom which slams into the bedroom door -- ?) was slightly awkward. Bathroom (as has been said in other reviews) was somewhat dated. Floor tiles are modern but shower tiles and fixtures seem from another era and the shower leaked. The shower water pressure was great though. Tub mat and grab bar provided for safety, which we always appreciate.
We hope to stay at the Hotel Sierra again sometime, when it gets fully absorbed into the Hyatt system, which might inspire some updating. Even the maid this morning was very cheery, wishing us a good morning and Merry Christmas ---- evidently the hotel does a wonderful job training their staff. The only area that was a little "off" was the bar, where we ordered drinks and chips and salsa on our arrival. Overly expensive and not very tasty. With few choices on Christmas Eve, we'll just chock that off as a learning experience for next time.
