“I was hoping for better...”

We stayed at the resort the first week of October 2011.
The rooms are clean, but could do with some updates, especially in the kitchen.
The decks are nothing to talk about, either.
There is no safe in the unit, so we were creative when we left the unit.
You could rent DVDs but the TVs were not flat screens.
The pool area is not bad, but it was too cold to really sit out once the sun left the area.
Ramona is an hour from downtown San Diego, but we knew that and we enjoyed being out of the city.

“Converted Apartment House”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

We were so disappointed during our stay in October, 2011. Our Grandkids were looking forward to Legoland, Sea World, etc. and this Resort is over an hours drive from anything. It is a converted apartment house (in need of upgrading) and geared more for the golfers and those who want to lounge around the pool. The rooms are somewhat spacious, but the bathrooms are miniscule. The shower is so small you will find it difficult to wash your hair and anyone bigger than a size 10 would find it difficult even to bathe. The kitchen was nice and well equipped, but we found the walls to be thin and could hear whatever was going on with our neighbors. This is definitely not a place to stay if you plan to tour sights around the San Diego area, but if you want to golf, perhaps it would meet your needs.

“Not That Fun Of A Stay”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2011

We stayed at the resort from 8/19 to 8/26. This was our second week of our vacation. The first week was spent at the Sheraton Park Hotel next to Disneyland. We had a beautiful stay at the Sheraton. Not so at the Riviera Oaks Resort. The rooms were clean and the size of the two bedroom unit was fine. The kids also enjoyed the pool. We had major problems with our rooms. And I do say rooms! We had to move three times in one week. Not fun! After our first night, we were woken up by loud banging in the pipes. This would happen when someone in our villa number would run the water. My wife complained to the front desk, and we were told that we could move that morning. So, we packed everything up, and changed to our second room. A few days later, after returning to our room after a long heated day at the park, we opened our room to a hot box. The tempature was over 80 degrees in the room. The AC was not working. My wife contacted the front desk at around 10:50 PM, and was told by the person working at the front desk to put our key into the energy saver, and the AC should kick on in a few minutes. She asked if someone would be at the front desk in case it didn't work, and was told that someone would be there all night. Well 15 minutes later, and no AC, she called back to reach the security guard. He informed her that everyone leaves at 11:00 PM. It would have been nice to be told that by the person she spoke to. Nothing against the security guard, but he make a trip to our room to check things out. There was nothing he could do to fix the problem. So, let's more a third time to another room that the AC works so we can get some sleep in a cooler room. The third room AC unit was shut off, so it was very hot in the room. Keep in mind that we have a 10 year old, and it's now around midnight. It took over an hour to start to cool the room down. A complete nightmare week! Our AC unit needed to be repaired. Apparently, a lot of the units freeze up. And our freezer also leaked into the fridge. My wife was cleaning up water everyday. We were told that the ice maker was in correctly. So they fixed it, but it stilled leaked.

We did find the rooms to be clean. Parts of the resort need to be fixed. They also need to have more washer/dryers on the property as well. The kids did enjoy the pool. Unfortunately, with all of the moving, it was quite hard to get settled and in a relax mode. After paying all of the fees to exchange into the resort, we were disappointed. We would not return, and plan to leave a review with Interval International as well. Quite a difference coming from the Shearton to here.

Also, if you plan to visit San Diego, it's a 45 to 60 minute drive one way. It's kind of a pain when you have to drive that distance everytime to visit one of the attractions.

“Thieves! No lock box. Do not go stay here.”

I had over $400 stolen out of my wallet while staying at the resort. I am absolutely certain of it. When I filed a claim they encouraged me not to file a police report - shady. They read the key scanner to see who had come in the room besides us and no one had so the manager called and told me there was nothing else they could do and that it would "end here." But I asked if all the maintenance people and maids knew that the protocol is to run a key check and they said yes - so of course they didn't use a key card. The patio doors were unlocked when we got there so someone and easily could have gotten in-shady. Super shady immoral stuff happening over there. I called the police and am writing reviews to keep as many people safe from this place as I can. It was supposed to relaxing! What a bummer :(

Room Tip: Do not stay here - they steal cash.

“Spacious, full of cooking amenities, however noisy..”

Booked a double bed room (meant for 6 pax). Arrived on Fri ~11pm at night, the front desk is closed but the security knew we were coming and gave us the keys. He is one friendly security who did a nice job telling us what to expect in the morning view wise (since our first time here) . In the morning we did our official check in and the staff is very friendly.

Room is comfy for 4 (we came as family of 4), it would probably fit 5 though as it has 1 king bed and 1 queen bed, at least on the room I stayed. The place is very spacious with at least >1600 square feet indoors with balcony that fits a lazy chair, barbeque grill and a small table to allow us to have view of folks riding horses and jogging. This place feels like medium high class apartment. It has great kitchen full kitchen amneties which is a wow for us, and probably the first hotel that we saw having recycle bin. THANK YOU for being kind to Mother Nature. The bathroom is slightly small for standard American size, the toilet bowl is mini. They still have old cathode type TVs. One item that I dislike a lot is there is a lot of sound whenever someone open the water taps, believe it is the pump since we are almost on top of hill. BAD for lightsleeper. They need to fix this one, despite this is only a 2 storey apartment like hotel. One other disadvantage is it does not have hair dryer in the bathroom

It is 1 hour away from San Diego and 1 hr away from Legoland, Carlsbad which is ok for us. The drive to these places from here is winding and countrylike with small roads, but manageable with GPS.

As this is timeshare based (from Monarch Grand Vacations), there is extra service charge to clean up the room, which I am ok with as we seldom use this services whenever we are on vacation. This is probably not ok who has got used to hotel service to clean room every day. It does serve complementary breakfast, which kind of nice if we are lazy to prepare our own breakfast. The only caveat is the coffee maker is a constraint and we always have to wait for a coffee, and we have a not too happy cafe caretaker.

We will come back again
