This hotel sits on a hill and has wonderful views. That is the high point. The day I checked in there were a couple boxes of garbage placed outside the main entry doors apparently waiting for someone to take them away. They were still sitting there the next morning. And there was what appeared to be white paint splattered on the red brick entry way. So it was not a great first impression. The staff was okay but not overly attentive. When I went up to the check-in counter, two staff members were discussing some type of problem and ignored me for several minutes, but finally finished their discussion and asked me if I wanted to check in? (I wanted to say, “No I thought I’d just stand here and listen to you discuss your personal problems all night”).
In the room the carpets, furnishings and fittings were all aged and in need of replacement. The carpet had several stains and was frayed where it met the door jam and at several seems. The sliding closet door would not slide – it would not stay on the track. The faucets in the bathroom and kitchenette worked only with a lot of force – they ‘stick’ so you have to pull like heck and then when they finally break loose and turn on, you get a big clunk and a blast of water. The blanket and quilt on the bed were very old and worn, well beyond time to replace. The blanket was scary looking – it appeared dirty but it might have just been really ‘used’ I didn’t want to think about it too much.
The ‘free internet’ worked for about twenty minutes then puked out and would not function.
There is a small fitness room with dated equipment. The stair climber had an “out of order sign”, but the elliptical and the treadmill were functional if well worn. The fitness room shares space with a laundry room, making for humid, warm and soapy smelling atmosphere – not ideal for working out.
