From the minute Steph met us at the door of this Victorian inn, we knew we were in store for a great stay. We stayed in the Vineyard room with its luxurious king bed. The inn is known for its soft sheet and let me say they are the softest I have ever encountered. Each of the three rooms has its own AC unit and bath. The rooms also come with microfiber robe for your comfort. Shortly after we settled in, Steph came by the parlor to offer us a glass of the local wine. Need a dinner reservation, they will make one for you, and they are willing to offer dining choices based on your likes. Lily, the inn's very friendly dachshund, is quite the cutey and a welcome addition.

But this is only part of the allure of the Shafshy B&B. Rita is the genius behind the breakfasts, which begin with a bowl of perfectly ripened fruit. One morning, it may be followed by a baked apple pancake, a wonderful eggs benedict of Rta's culinary talent or a spinach, rice and egg casserole topped with feta. Then there are the freshly baked goodies that are not to be missed.

A sign in the entry reads "Come as strangers, leave as friends" and we can tell you that is more than a platitude. Steph and Rita are some of the friendliest and welcoming innkeepers we have ever had the pleasure of meeting. It would be very difficult not to leave as a friend. It is nice to see there are innkeepers who truly enjoy what they do, and it is a pleasure to stay with them.

When we first arrived, we were concerned a bit; the neighborhood is nice, but the house next door is a bit run down on the exterior and parts of the B&B looked worn. But inside is terrific. Our room (on the first floor) was spacious, comfortable and quiet, with our own A/C unit to control as we wished. The living room was great for sitting at night and reading. Rita met us at check in and offered a glass of wine as we got settled. She helped us decide where to go for dinner. We were able to easily walk to Main Street to dine and shop. Breakfast in the morning was fabulous and we hated to leave.

Note2: in the Sierra Nevada area, it was almost impossible to find a place to stay that had adequate air conditioning. This B&B was the welcome exception.

My husband, friends, and I had a delightful stay at the Shafsky House. The Inn keeper, Rita made us feel so welcome. It was if we had known her for years.
The Inn is right in the heart of Placerville so we could walk to the restaurants in town but still have a quiet nights sleep.
Once you have slept in those sheets you will never want to leave!

With the owner meeting us with a friendly greeting at the front door, already knew this was going to be a nice place. It was far past our expectation. Warm and friendly; rooms nicely appointed; glorious sheets; wine in the evenings, and tasty breakfasts. What more could you ask for. Walkiing distance to town (for meals), yet far enough for peace and quiet. Good area for neighborhood walks. A must stay and we will definitely go back.
