“Had a great time. We would come back.”

Clean enough bathrooms and showers. Showers had warm water and there were plenty of them, but you need quarters for them. We were in camp sight 71. It was small and there was no shade. But it was overcast and not too hot anyway, plus it was in a good spot because we were not next to anyone else. We were fairly secluded but near enough to the bathrooms. The beach is kind of a hike over sand dunes from our camp sight. But you can just drive your car onto the beach instead of taking the hike if you have kids. Cars on the beach are handy, but can be a hazard with little kids. If you go further down the beach no cars are allowed and there's a lifeguard. We had a nice time riding in a kayak on the lagoon. The kids loved finding so many sand dollars at the beach and the sand was very nice. Other campers were very quiet at night, which was good for us. You can hear the freeway from the campsite though and there was a train that rode through in the middle of the night on Monday night. I could literally feel the ground shake. It felt like the train was passing right next to me. There's a nice older man on the corner of highway 1/Casitas in Oceano that sells firewood for a good price.

“Horrible Place, Never Camp here”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2011

I have never been to a campground where the rangers/staff were so incredibly rude. The lady we talked to at the front while checking in was very rude then we felt like we were being watched the entire time we were there. The rangers harassed us the second it hit 10pm while we were sitting around the campfire talking. They want you inside and completely silent. The rangers fully abused their authority. Our Adults all were 30 to 40 years old and we had children ranging from 1 to 5 who were all in bed at this time. The rangers treated us like criminals shining their flash lights in our faces and making us sit on a bench. All they had to do was let us know they thought we were too loud and we would have gone inside. Instead they yelled at us and told us they would be asking us to leave in the morning forfeiting what we had payed for the rest of the weekend. I will never go back here and don't recommend this place to anyone.

“Nice Family Campsite”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 April 2011

Stayed for 2 nights and had a very nice stay. Campsites are close together, but as long as you have respectful people around your stay will be great. We had a very nice stay because their were a lot of young kids all around us who played well with our kids. The location is a nice walk to the beach. Our 3 and 5 year old had no problems with the walk. Found tons of sand dollars and shells on the beach. We had a site with electric and water for our travel trailer. Everything worked great and check in & check out went smooth. The local ranger put on a kids show on Friday night and was entertaining. Will definitely go back again.

“Amazing!”

This campground is wonderful for a place to get away. I have been going to this campground every year with my family since I was a small child. The RV and tent camping is completely separated by trees and a lagoon. The noisy generators don't bother the tent campers and the smoky fires don't bother the RV campers. There are nature trails and easy shopping and beach access. Even large grocery stores to get more supplies in nearby Grover City. Everything is here for whatever kind of camping you love to do.

“Pismo Beach Campground North Beach”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2007

We were unable to even GET a campsite. The North Beach Campground is First Come First Served, and what a mess. I was told by the Oceano Campground via telephone that we had to go to the campsite, find an empty spot, set up our tent and pay. I asked Specifically if we could put out a reserved sign and pay for it. No, you have to set up camp.
We went there at noon Sunday to get the site, and everyone was putting up boxes and paper plates to reserve the space, no one was putting up any of their camping items, just a chair or a box. We went to the ranger station to let them know, and the Aide was rude as anyone I have ever encountered.
My question becomes this. Do you have to get there at 10 a.m. and ask who's leaving, and then hang around their campsite all morning like a vulture in order to get a campsite? in which case, when is it cleaned? I was told that check out was at noon, and check in at 2:00, I can't imagine putting even camping gear down before it's cleaned up from the previous campers. ish.
So, I don't believe we'll be camping until the spots are reservation only; or until we figure out the system... which seems to change from day to day. I don't believe it's so difficult to go play in the dirt for a few days. Sigh.
