“Decent hotel depending on the rate”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2007

Pinole is a pretty decent little city, considering it borders the city of Richmond, aka the Murder Capital of Northern California. There are plenty of stores, restaurants and services for business or leisure travellers, and the proximity to both the Bay Area and the Napa Valley make it a good base of operations for tourists. This 70's-era motel has been fairly well-maintained, and with the addition of a few amenities like coffee makers, hair dryers, and refrigerators in the rooms, it is one or two steps above the most basic Motel 6-type accomodation. Although located on a busy street near a busy freeway, if you request a room at the back you should have no problem. The clientele last night was mostly construction workers and truck drivers. This is usually fine, since these guys go to bed and get up early. The only noise I heard was the clicking of the high heels of the working girls going up and down the stairs. In my own quarters I had a comfortable queen size bed, and with the fan I had a good nights sleep. The breakfast wasn't even worth the walk up to the office: weak coffee, cheap white bread for toast and a few cereals. If you need breakfast, head over to the Alley Cafe nearby--they do an incredible breakfast, with the largest pancakes known to man. And for dinner, be sure to try Uncle Chung's right next door. Some of the best Chinese food you'll ever have! I stayed at the Pinole Days Inn primarly because all the hotels in Oakland were booked, and this was the only cheap place I could find within a twenty-mile radius. I would stay here again if I got the same rate ($60), but I wouldn't pay more.

“Best lower budget option”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2006

I have stayed at this hotel approximately 8 times in the past year and everytime I have found clean comfortable rooms. The towels and sheets have been clean and there is always soap and minor toiletries which is good for a low budget place. The bathrooms have been clean. The desk staff has been polite and responsive. There are refridgerators but no microwaves (one in the lobby while it is open). Don't count on breakfast- if there is anything out in the morning it is very minor and I've never seen the the spa/hot tub in working order. The TVs work with quite a few channels and the rooms smell fine. The hotel is a couple blocks from LOTS of fast food restaurants, and some not chains, a few more blocks to a couple supermarkets. I have tried to find other low budget hotels in the area but they are either more expensive or scary (the rooms or the neighborhood). This is a good option you need a safe, clean, simple, motel/hotel .

“Decent for a night or two”

I stayed here on a rainy day and the ants didn't like it outside any more than I did. They were all over the room, including the bed. The managment was quick and pleasant about moving me to another room.
If atmosphere matters to you I wouldn't stay here but for someplace to lay your head it was fine. It was clean and there was a mini fridge in both the rooms I was in which is handy. If you have trouble walking I would ask for a room near the front. The motel is on a steep hill. I was near the middle and had to climb stairs or go down the hill and then up a ramp to get to my bottom floor room from the parking lot.

“Try another place”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2005

This place is fairly inexpensive but once you check in you will begin to see why. I travel quite a bit for business and usually stay in other hotels. I have an idea of what to expect from motels as opposed to hotels so I am generally not too particular about them and mainly require that they are clean. The room I was assigned to was not. The sheets had obviously not been cleaned recently. A dirt streaked pillow case covered a child's "Dora the Explorer" cartoon pillow. The bathroom towels had obviously been in use for quite awhile. They were discolored, and one towel was ripped in half to make a medium sized towel people sometimes use for a rug in the bathroom. The room I stayed in had ants and a line of thick dust surrounding it. If you are going to be in the Pinole area anytime soon and want a clean place to lay our head, I would suggest looking elsewhere first before settling on this dump, especially if you have allergies. Otherwise, get ready for a long uncomfortable night.

“OK for a night”

We overnighted here after having flown in from the UK. We were dead beat, and just wanted somewhere to put our heads down, and the Days Inn fitted the bill.
The room was basic, but clean and comfortable. The front desk staff were pleasant, and we had a decent complimentary breakfast of juice, cereals, bread/toast or bagels and pastries to see us on our way.
It's conveniently located near the Appian Way exit to I80, and there's a shopping centre with an Albertsons and various food outlets within 5 minutes walk of the hotel.
It doesn't pretend to be 5 star, but is certainly adequate for a short stay.
