“The Best Hotel in the Pebble Beach Resort”

I have to be honest--we so love Casa Palmero that we have made it an annual trip! I have watched the hotel age gracefully since it opened to a beautiful tranquil spot. The staff turnover is low which is great because the people working there are true professionals.

A woman named Cheryl will call you prior to arrival to help with any special arrangement or appointments. Need a dinner reservation? Flowers in the room? Spa decisions? Cheryl is the one to ask. Michael or Matt will greet you at check-in and take care of everything for you. You can order breakfast through them to be brought at a specified time, arrange to "borrow" a Lexus for a few hours, have them get your golf bag from course to course, retrieve forgotten sunglasses at the Lodge, etc. No request is off-putting to them! And Jenny handles the turndown service with such finesse. You think I am kidding but she remembers all the particular likes/don't likes...as in I don't like the shutters closed in the room but I do like a window cracked open. Phenomemal!

We usually stay in an Estate Studio as they are slightly larger than the smaller rooms but they DO NOT have a jacuzzi . They do have an over-sized dining area and beautiful window seat that more than compensates. The amount of light coming into these second floor rooms also appeals to me more than the first floor rooms which I find a little dark.

The bathroom is sublime with radiant heat floors, limestone tiles and a great big soaking tub complete with lighted candles on scones. Wow, that sentence alone makes me sorry I had to check out last week.

Room service has improved over the last 5 years and is now part of the treat. Stillwater is wonderful and the Tap Room (at the Lodge) is OK. The only reason to go to Sticks at Spanish Bay is to see the Bagpiper -- and once is enough. It is almost like a sports bar.

The spa is right next door. The Pebble Massage and the flotations wraps are terrific. The beauty salon is OK for mani/pedicures but nothing special. As a guest at Casa Palmero you are able to use all the facilities gratis...things like to steam room, indoor jacuzzi, aromotherapy room, etc. Take advantage of this perk!

Overall, a five star experience at a great resort!

“Perfect getaway; beautiful resort, great staff”

My wife and I wanted to get away from the city for a weekend, and Casa Palmero gave us just what we wanted.

PROS:
1. Beautiful location - the Pebble Beach area is beautiful, and 17-mile drive is a relaxing one to take, especially in the complimentary Lexus that they offer to their guests for a test-drive.
2. Good food - The continental breakfast that was included with our room had a broad selection of items, delivered promptly to our door as we had requested. Room service also had some tasty selections, but if you want to sit down, Still Water Grill has a beautiful view. For a romantic dinner, try Club XIX. The service and food were excellent and it also has a great view at sunset.
3. Quality of rooms - The room was luxurious; large bathroom, beautiful furnishings, smart layout (the tub in between rooms was a good concept), and everything was very clean. The outdoor space of the spa room gave us the privacy we needed, with the ability to enjoy the nice weather and smell of the flowers.
4. Privacy - This hotel only has about 24 rooms, so there aren't a lot of people roaming around - perfect if you want to get away and have a relaxing stay.
5. Great spa/massage therapy - We had some of the best massages at this facility. The staff really knows what they are doing. I hurt my back a few weeks before our trip, and after the treatment, I felt 100x better. My wife and I enjoyed a couples massage and foot soothing treatment - I'd recommend both. The conservatory also offered a nice common area for us to relax together. You can even walk to the spa in your robe since it is located next door.
6. Wonderful staff - Usually during vacations, my wife and I keep to ourselves. Being in the city wears us out, and we like to be away from everyone for some quality time together. Let's face it, even small talk can wear you out. But this was the first time we actually felt like we wanted to be engaged in conversation with the people around us; the staff was so friendly and seemed really genuine (they never hound you for a tip). They were also very helpful with whatever we needed and definitely helped to bring our stay to another level. It seems like their focus is making your stay a pleasant one.

CONS: none from us

We'll be back...

Pros: Kind and not unctous service * Suite 640 has nice room for bed, 2 sinks, shower, bath, vanity area, fireplace and sofas * private jacuzzi was a plus * room service in mornings offer great granola, pastries, juices, coffee * Staff always available * walking distance from spa (only recommend their facials) * grand piano (can use), bar and reading room provide nice respite * excellent access to golf courses and my favorite Stillwater Grill restaurant * near scenic 17 mile drive and towns of Carmel/Monterey * grounds kept immaculate as well as housekeeping * enjoyed the Mediterranean architecture of the resort very much

Cons: Upper floor can see us in jacuzzi * passing pedestrians may hear our conversation on patio * morning room service for Spanish tortilla and ham-cheese pastries were served lukewarm at best

“Relaxing in Luxury”

Casa Palmero was truly one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in! Our entire Pebble Beach experience was flawless. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we had everything that we needed at all times. We were in a Spa Room, that had an outdoor jaccuzzi and a fireplace. We called ahead and had the fireplace lit each night, so it would be burning upon our return from dinner. Since gratuity is included in your "resort fee", I found the service to be even better. The staff was not just looking for the next tip, but was truly available to help.

There are complimentary drinks & apps each night from 5-7p - shrimp ceviche, beef tenderloin skewers, and top shelf liquor and wine. Every nook & cranny of the property was lavishly decorated and planted - the flowers were amamzing.

The staff helped my husband get to his daily tee times. Casa also has a private entrance to the spa - you can just wear the robe from your room and walk over - priceless!

A short walk takes you to the Lodge at Pebble Beach with restaurant opportunities. Spanish Bay is a short drive down the 17-mile drive. The hotel offers a 2-hour test drive of a Lexus, and it was the best way to enjoy the 17-mile drive - in a convertible! (make sure you set it up early in your stay, beacuse the time slots fill up) Another "must" is the bagpiper at Spanish Bay. He plays every night at dusk, and watching him emerge from the green & mist, is truly a magical sight!

Granted, you will pay extra for the seclusion, service, & privacy of Casa Palmero, but it is WELL worth the cost!

We can't wait to plan a return trip!

“Simply can't say enough. Definitely will return”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2006

DH and I traveled down through California to treat ourselves for making it through a particularly stressful time, this was our first stop. It was outstanding in every way.

Our trip was somewhat last minute and poorly organized due to stress and lack of time (we just wanted to get out of town and fast) and everywhere we fell down, the staff was there to pick us up. I forgot both my battery and a power cord for my laptop -- the staff found one for me (and offered to drive to an electronics store to buy me one if necessary). We were terrible about arranging transportation ahead of time and they, not once but twice, chauffered us around (once into Carmel and at the end our trip back to the airport rather than having us take the shuttle).

Our room was lovely. DH loved the outdoor jacuzzi. I loved the quiet. Breakfast every morning was more than wonderful as we ate fresh fruit and breads, drank coffee/tea in our robes and decided what we'd do for the day.

Neither of us play golf and we didn't feel left out in the slightest. We went to the gym (working out with a spectacular view on the beach) and we went to the spa. No tennis this trip but definitely next trip.

A day trip to Carmel was fabulous.

We went to 3 of the restaurants for dinner and found both XIX and Stillwater's to be wonderful (we also went to Roy's which I find only so-so but it was convenient. We've been to the one in Palm Springs and I simply am not impressed by it.)

We're definitely going back and for a longer stay (we only stayed 3 nights before heading to our next destination).
