“Excellent Paso Robles Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

The evening front desk service at this moderately priced hotel is the best I have ever experienced at a major chain. They gave us a completely non-smoking room as we requested. When were later than expected, we called to let them know and they wanted to know if we preferred first floor or second floor accommodations. Our GPS was goofy and they guided us to the hotel step-by-step, they called our room to let us know that the interior lights in our rental car were on, they provided extra silverware so we could eat in our room the first night we were there. They gave excellent advice on local restaurants. We used the fridge and microwave and if we'd stayed longer I know we would have used the laundry.

The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. The outdoor heated pool was open in January so my Pacific Northwest kid loved it!

It is a motel style - rooms open to the exterior. However it seems they actually monitor the cars in the parking lot since they discovered our dome light was on.

This was our second stay in the last few years. Really appreciated walking to the nearby Starbucks every morning. One night we ordered pie from the restaurant that was reasonably good.

“A very good place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011

We stayed here Dec 9-11, 2011. After researching the hotels in the area, I decided on this one because it was priced better than the hotels in the center of town and the reviews were good. We were only going to be “in town” for dinner and one lunch, so it didn’t make sense to spend $100+ more a night just to be able to walk to dinner. I gave the hotel info to my friend and he made the reservation (after doing some additional research). He arrived a little before me and said that check-in was easy and the front desk clerk was very nice.

We had the larger of the standard king-bed rooms (#241) with the jet tub which, unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to try out. We were very pleased with the size and cleanliness of the room. In addition to the bed and dresser, there was a desk & chair, couch, and recliner, and refrigerator and microwave. There was the standard hotel vanity (with sink, coffee maker, and hair dryer), and then the bathroom had a shower, toilet, and a sink. The shower had good water pressure.

The room was cleaned promptly, and they were quick to help when we told them that one of our keys wasn’t working. They checked the magnetized strip (which showed it was working) then walked back to the room with us, cleaned the lock, and made sure that both keys worked.

Check-out was easy and the clerk was genuinely interested in whether our stay had been a pleasant one.

There were some issues with the room. The refrigerator rattled a little whenever it turned off and the heater was overly loud when it turned on (which was only really noticeable at night when we were trying to sleep). My friend asked if I wanted to request another room, but it seemed like moving was more trouble than it was worth so we didn’t. We kept the room warm enough the rest of the time, so I simply turned the thermostat down low enough that it didn’t come on in the middle of the night. I was going to mention the heater to the staff before we left but I forgot to do so. The other issue was there not being a fan in the bathroom, only a window (California code states you need to have either a fan or a window). As it was dropping to 29F at night and was a little chilly during the day, we didn’t want to open the window to air out the bathroom. It wasn’t a huge concern, but a fan would have been nice.

One other thing, if you’re going to eat at Margie’s, the diner next to the hotel, there are $5 discount coupons available at the front desk, but you need to ask for them. They don’t give them out when you check in, and we forgot to get them before going to the restaurant Saturday morning. We almost forgot them when we checked out the next day but we remembered at the last minute. They gave them without hesitation, but it’s on you to remember to ask for them at the front desk.

“Great place to stay.”

This is our second visit to the Black Oak Best Western. We stayed here a year ago , and were just as pleased as we were the first time. Our room was spacious and very clean. The bathroom and dressing area were also spotless. The sheets on the bed were soft, and there were several pillows to use. Besides the microwave and small ref., the room had a large flat-screen T.V. We had breakfast vouchers to use at their on site restaurant, and we certainly got our money's worth! The place was beautifully decorated for Christmas, and the people at the front desk were very pleasant and helpful.

“Good accommodations for a great price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 December 2011

My husband and I came up to Paso Robles on very short notice. I was able to make reservations with no problems the night before we arrived. The room is very clean and functional. In the room you will find a desk and chair, a recliner next to the bed to relax in while watching tv or reading, a very comfy bed, a mini microwave, refrigerator and coffee pot. The bathroom has a shower and tub and outside the bathroom is the bathroom sink with a vanity area and great vanity lighting. There's also a ceiling fan w/lights in the same area.

We paid $89 for Friday and $100 for Saturday. Well worth it. The staff is very accommodating. If you are going to arrive late ( like midnight, as we always do) no problem. Just call and let the front desk know. There is always someone in the front office. They also have a diner onsight and the front office will give you coupons for $5 off your breakfast. We typically stay in B&Bs when we go to Paso but the stay here was worth it and it's seconds from beautiful downtown Paso Robles. We will stay here again.

Room Tip: I would definitely stay on the upper floors, its quieter.

“A Jewel in Paso Robles”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 December 2011

My wife and I always take a 2 night anniversary trip following Thanksgiving. We thought we'd like to visit some of Paso's 250 wineries and needed a place to stay. We noticed a lot of positive reviews on this site. It was a great choice. They exceeded our already high expectations. Their staff was very helpful in suggesting locations for wine tasting and events taking place in the area, Check in was easy, the room was spacious (really liked the recliner) and clean. The grounds and pool area were nicely landscaped and well cared for. Our room was very quiet, especially with its proximity to the highway
.
A special note: My wife forgot some clothing and earrings that she left in the dresser. She called the following day to see if they turned up. They had, and they mailed them to us without charging postage or anything. We are planning on returning for our next anniversary if not before, and have already recommended them to several friends.
