We stayed here Dec 9-11, 2011. After researching the hotels in the area, I decided on this one because it was priced better than the hotels in the center of town and the reviews were good. We were only going to be “in town” for dinner and one lunch, so it didn’t make sense to spend $100+ more a night just to be able to walk to dinner. I gave the hotel info to my friend and he made the reservation (after doing some additional research). He arrived a little before me and said that check-in was easy and the front desk clerk was very nice.
We had the larger of the standard king-bed rooms (#241) with the jet tub which, unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to try out. We were very pleased with the size and cleanliness of the room. In addition to the bed and dresser, there was a desk & chair, couch, and recliner, and refrigerator and microwave. There was the standard hotel vanity (with sink, coffee maker, and hair dryer), and then the bathroom had a shower, toilet, and a sink. The shower had good water pressure.
The room was cleaned promptly, and they were quick to help when we told them that one of our keys wasn’t working. They checked the magnetized strip (which showed it was working) then walked back to the room with us, cleaned the lock, and made sure that both keys worked.
Check-out was easy and the clerk was genuinely interested in whether our stay had been a pleasant one.
There were some issues with the room. The refrigerator rattled a little whenever it turned off and the heater was overly loud when it turned on (which was only really noticeable at night when we were trying to sleep). My friend asked if I wanted to request another room, but it seemed like moving was more trouble than it was worth so we didn’t. We kept the room warm enough the rest of the time, so I simply turned the thermostat down low enough that it didn’t come on in the middle of the night. I was going to mention the heater to the staff before we left but I forgot to do so. The other issue was there not being a fan in the bathroom, only a window (California code states you need to have either a fan or a window). As it was dropping to 29F at night and was a little chilly during the day, we didn’t want to open the window to air out the bathroom. It wasn’t a huge concern, but a fan would have been nice.
One other thing, if you’re going to eat at Margie’s, the diner next to the hotel, there are $5 discount coupons available at the front desk, but you need to ask for them. They don’t give them out when you check in, and we forgot to get them before going to the restaurant Saturday morning. We almost forgot them when we checked out the next day but we remembered at the last minute. They gave them without hesitation, but it’s on you to remember to ask for them at the front desk.
