“A Beautiful Retreat!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

My husband and I won an overnight stay at this luxurious hotel from the STARS Infant and Preschool fundraiser that we had attended. I have driven by this hotel so many times wandering what it would be like to experience that type of luxury. When we entered the lobby to check in, we were immediately assisted with parking and then escorted to our room and welcomed with a bottle of chilled champagne and cookies. How sweet!!! For parents of two small children who never get away, it was a dream to feel like we were in a far away destination while still being close to home. The linens were smooth as butter and the cookies and chocolates were amazing. The staff at the Pony Club were very kind and efficient. We look forward to our next experience at Hotel Cheval.

“Cozy and comfy yet a bit pricey for the area.”

Tasteful and comfortable hotel in the center of Paso Robles with an elegant horse theme. Within walking distance of restaurants, shops, and tasting rooms, its location is very convenient if you prefer walking to a wine tasting or dinner. The hotel has a very, very small lobby and check-in area; however, the internal courtyard is roomy and beautifully landscaped with fireplaces that are lit at night and create a cozy, romantic ambiance.

Room: Our room was spacious with a large bathroom and very nice soaps and lotions. The towels were large and fluffy. The bed was quite comfortable--not too hard, not too soft--with a generous amount of pillows. There is a coffee maker in the room; no refrigerator or microwave. Our room was on the first floor and included a lovely patio with a small table and chair. In warmer weather, it would have been a great area to read, enjoy breakfast, or wine and cheese before dinner.

Internet: WiFi is free. There were some connectivity problems while we were there but the staff helped to get it working.

Breakfast: Included in the price, it included a variety of cold cereals, bagels, baked goods, yogurt, fresh fruit and juice, coffee and tea. A modest but adequate selection and all the food was fresh and good quality. Breakfast is served in the hotels tasteful and clubby bar.

Staff: Employees were helpful and friendly. We are independent travelers with few demands so staying at a hotel without alot of staff and extra services, like Hotel Cheval, is fine for us.

BOTTOM LINE: While I enjoyed our one night stay very much, I felt the room price is high for the area. What we paid for a room with a fireplace (not a suite) is comparable to a full service high end resort. Sign up for promotions and sales to get better value.

Room Tip: Room on the first floor with a patio was very nice.

“AMAZING Boutique hotel, Love it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

This is my fourth stay at Hotel Cheval, most recent January 4th & 5th 2012. I just love the simplicity of the place and the location. I walk to my two favorite restaurants:
El Cortile'
Artisan
Rooms are upscale (sorry most rooms do not have tubs), LCD TV's, very friendly staff, and not pretentious at all. The continental bkfst. is ok, fresh fruit, baked goods & fresh coffee. Plan on sitting in the courtyard in front of the oversized fireplaces, and drink your favorite wine from your day's excursions. Yes, you can find cheaper places but your time is valuable, right? I'd opt not to bring small kids (under 9), this is your get-away, they have enough fun. Very close to my favorite wineries:
Vina Robles
Tablas Creek
Justin
Caliza
Jada
and others...
The pony bar is a wine only bar, but it has a cool vibe, very pleasant bartenders and they all seem to be professional Horse persons; quite interesting. they pour different local wines (generous pours). Another key point the beds are upscale, you won't need to bring your pillows. Shower is excellent, so much water presssure it's wonderful. Rooms have excellent blow dryers, and upscale bathroom soaps, etc. They do give you bottled water each day. Try the complimentry fireside S'Mores they are excellent, you know it's the little things that keep me going back to Hotel Cheval, and it's a four hour drive for me...but worth it. You are worth it; stay at Hotel Cheval. Hint - book early, best to just find out when they have availabiliy, then select. Avoid big event weekends, unless you like crowds. go to the tastings early, and remember you are tasting, not drinking (much), drink later....enjoy

Room Tip: They are all very nice.

“Best hotel in town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

Right away I loved it when I stepped into the lobby, which was gorgeous and quaint. The staff was extremely helpful and the room was very nice and very clean. It is an expensive hotel and I knew that going in so I can't complain about the price. It is right downtown, which is what I wanted so I was a happy girl. My boyfriend appreciated the on-site parking. Would definitely go back if I could find a discount. LOVED the fireplace in the courtyard and the bar (cant remember the name). I went in Dec so very different I am sure than the summertime.

“Top notch boutique hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011 via mobile

We are so glad we picked the Hotel Cheval for our stay in Paso Robles! The room was great and the staff really friendly. The outdoor fire-places in the courtyard added to the romantic setting. The room was really nice with a really comfortable bed. We will definitively come back here the next time we visit Paso Robles.
